Three senior Bang Na police officers axed after a casino raid by troops

BANGKOK: -- Three senior police officers of Bang Na police station were abruptly transferred to inactive posts at the Metropolitan Police Bureau after army troops raided an illegal casino in Sukhumvit Soi 107 Friday night and arrested 46 gamblers together with several gambling equipments.

The raid was carried out by troops from the 2nd cavalry division of the royal guards reportedly after many complaints were lodged with the military against the presence of the illegal gambling den in Soi Baring allegedly operated by a local politician.

The military seized 560,000 baht in cash and an account detailing the under-the-table expenses of the illegal casino since last March.

Metropolitan Police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Sivara Rangsipromkul said that three senior Bang Na police officers were abruptly transferred pending an investigation.

The three axed police officers were the superintendent of the police station and his two deputies.

I fail to see the big leap forward if some corrupt Thais that own casinos at the border to Cambodia (Police and Military people) make the profit with gambling and not paying any tax instead of some corrupt Thais in Bangkok. I have nothing against legalized gambling, we got that in the Netherlands. I myself don't gable but I don't see much of a problem. I am not a moralist that tells others what to do. Gambling.. drug use.. I don't care as long as people don't bother / harm others.

Simple solution to problem Legalize and regulate Casino's Then you tax owners to pay for police services and rail projects. You will then get Quality Chinese tourist to use Thai term "FLOCKING" here and spending real money YOU FEEL RUCKY?

Some one told me they banned pin ball machines here long back because the Thais where addicted to them. Can you imagine a casino. If they did have a casino i think they should have minimum 50 baht chips so the young poor and vulnerable people would not afford to get hooked. Plus some serious vetting for entry.

There are casinos all over the country and we all know who really owns them, however we are not allowed to say. Bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation if you were caught working or gambling in one and your only way out of being charged is to tell who the owner is.

The military are to have a monopoly on all illegal casinos, go-go bars, foresting, smuggling, drugs and political corruption from here on in. Democracy meant the spoils had to be shared with the Police and Politicians and so it will be tolerated no more.
