crmster Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Hi all. Great forum here found a lot of tips. Here is my saga. I am staying in Pai at the moment but hired a car from Avis in Chiang Mai. I went out this morning and someone has stolen the wheel trims / plastic covers from the rental car. To avoid any crap from Avis I was hoping to buy a cheap set of replacements in either chiang mai or pai. Car is a Toyota vios . New preferable and don't need to be genuine Toyota. But second hand ones in decent nick from a used car place is also good. Urgent as I need to hand the car back tomorrow. Many many thanks folks 1
HeijoshinCool Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Are you sure your rental agreement makes you liable for such a theft?
daveAustin Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I guess they could hit you up on excess. Have a look in somewhere like Big C, they often have wheel trims & things for Jap cars at the back.
crmster Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Hi dave excuse my ignorance but what / where is big C
daveAustin Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Big supermarket, several around town: see here for the easiest for you on the Superhighway. Also, while coming back towards CM from Pai on the 107, just past the town of Mae Rim is a huge cash n' carry place called Makro (on your left). They might also have them.
cmsally Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 The genuine wheel hub trims for Toyotas are pretty expensive, that is why they often get taken. There are also fake ones (cheaper) that don't stay on very well (I tried them) but if you have a rental car then sticking power might not be the most necessary factor.
Popular Post onthedarkside Posted February 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 18, 2015 If you signed for all the insurance options then Avis insurance should cover for this theft. Last time I rented an Avis car at Udon Thani airport, I hit a sharp stone on the road and completely wrecked a tyre. I expected to pay for a new tyre, phone Avis and they directed me to the nearest Avis depot and gave me a new car. No extra charge. 3
petermik Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Try visiting Big C park your car and "borrow" a similar set to the one you lost 1
Popular Post teacherofwoe Posted February 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 18, 2015 If you need vios wheel trims, I have a set of unused ones as I put alloys on my car as soon as I bought it. You'll need to collect them from Hang Dong. PM direct if you want them. No charge. 8
crmster Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Brilliant teacherofwoe I've sent pm =)

They could possibly be found in the concession shops around the perimeter of the main shopping area, not Big C itself . These kind of car accessory shops are also at places such as Topps and Kad Sun Gow shopping centre
crmster Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Hi ThaiPauly do you mean in the shopping centre or next to them ? I'm running out of time lol. Will check tmw morning but please keep the suggestions coming
ThaiPauly Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 ^ Sometimes they are inside the stores sometimes outside, really depends where you go. Sometimes I have even seen wheel covers displayed on racks beside main roads but I can't recall where, sorry.
crmster Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Hi All thanks for your help, I tried a few different places suggested above Big C etc and got no where unfortunately I went to meet teacherofwoe and picked up the set for him which unfortunately didnt fit but I did find a shop next to the shell station (tyre shop) and 500 Baht and a trade for the other set and all is now well and Avis didn't notice Thanks all!
