KOH SAMUI: -- According to a Thairath news report at 6.30 o’clock this morning, Wednesday March 18, around 200 police officers, led by the commander of Surat Thani Provincial Police, Pol.Maj.Gen. Apichart Boonsriroat, searched the homes of suspects accused of hiring someone to kill 49-year-old Mr. Panas Kaoauthai also known as “Tak Bophut” a local businessman who was shot in a restaurant in Bophut Walking Street area on Friday March 6th, 2015.

The officers searched the 5 houses of the target suspects in Koh Samui area. The main target was a house at Ban Rak Tawan, 120/4, Moo 1, Bophut sub-district, Koh Samui district which belongs to Mr. Samart Boonsin also known by the name Dang Chor for whom the police had already issued an arrest warrant for being one of the team connected to the contract murder of Mr. Panas.

Police officers have also reportedly also arrested Mr. Chanai Soksom, 50, a former Samui City Council candidate after being accused of hiring someone to murder Mr. Panas. Police officers also revealed that they were able to capture Mr. Chayut Kaewaram, 35 who stands accused of shooting Mr. Panas. Police suspected that the reason behind the murder was conflict of interests. However, the police investigation continues as they search for a second gunman who is now thought to be in hiding.

This shows again that the police know quite well what's going on 'out there in the jungle'.

Best outcome is the killers will be identified and maybe even go to jail (if the police are not directly involved).

Just a shame that even if they know who is the 'mastermind' he/she wont be prosecuted because of all the known reasons.

These Thai photo ops accompanying pretentious busts are a real stain on Thailand and its sincerity to clean up.

Why are they sat around laughing and smiling?

I think this photo tells you all you need to know about the police relationship with Samui's powerful 'businessmen'.

Hopefully the cops all received a nice glass of ice cold lemonade to further enrich their experience.

The only thing missing is a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black, an ice bucket, and the glasses.

I can see how those of you with less (or no) experience of the Thai police and how they interview witnesses/supects would be surprised by the apparent relaxed atmosphere as shown in the photo. However, in my (limited) experience - this is exactly how I have seen them operate in at least four different cases. (One murder, one auto-accident death and two theft.)

They prefer to interview in a relaxed and friendly environment encouraging witnesses/suspects to speak freely and without threat. In all four cases above, this method worked. The BIB's 'got their man'.

Perhaps we should not judge them by interrogation methods employed by other police forces?
