You can get a license, don't worry about that, for bars over 12" length. I wasn't aware of regulations at the time and I clearly labelled my container as containing two large chain saws (husqvarna as it happens). No problem but I could have been hassled for import duty. Husqvarna no longer imports larger saws into Thailand because of the hassle. I have a 45 cm machine for sale btw. As you have bought the machine, I would take a discrete risk and import it anyway. I am the chain saw guy in the village and have had no problems yet.

Correction to my above post, and quoting from the link given by Jdietz,

"The Thai Ministry of Commerce designates classes of goods that are subject to import controls, which usually take the form of permission and licensing. Although these controls are being liberalized, more than classes of goods require licenses. Application for a license to the Ministry of Commerce must be accompanied by a supplier's order, confirmation, invoice and other pertinent documents. A license may be for a set period rather than a single importation. Exports to Thailand are not subject to any kind of pre-shipment inspection scheme. If you have a question about a specific control or restriction please visit their website at http://www.moc.go.th/. The following is a general list of the items, which are controlled or restricted import into Thailand:

This list includes chain saws
