Popular Post Costas2008
Congratulations to the Phuket police for arresting people with leaves. Now off you go and get the people selling hard drugs.....that's more important in my opinion.
Popular Post doremifasol
Mitragyna speciosa (ketum,[2] kratom or kratum,[3] Thai: กระท่อม) is a tropical deciduous and evergreen tree in the coffee family (Rubiaceae) native to Southeast Asia in the Indochina and Malesia floristic regions. Its leaves are used for medicinal properties. It is psychoactive, and leaves are chewed to uplift mood and to treat health problems.[4] M. speciosa is indigenous to Thailand and, despite growing naturally in the country, has been outlawed for 70 years and was originally banned because it was reducing the Thai government's tax revenue from opium distribution.[4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitragyna_speciosa

Popular Post Yooyung
I have been given this stuff before. In the area that I live the farmers eat kratom in the same way you would have a cup of coffee at the office. Its a stimulant in smaller doses (used for working in arduous conditions) and more of an opiate effect in larger doses. I must say it was a fairly mild and pleasant feeling. I think the fact that it is illegal is preposterous, it grows naturally here and has been used for centuries for all sorts of ailments. Its not the sort of thing one kills ones grandmother to get ones hands on..... There was talk a couple of years back about legalizing it. I think its a plant worthy of further study. Time would be better spent hauling in yabaa and ice rather than concentrating on this leaf. Making criminals of people that ingest a plant that doesn't appear to be particularly harmful is a tad over the top in my opinion.

Maggusoil
Ridiculous! Just what an absurd waste of money and time. Teach people to drive and stop the carnage on our roads.

madmitch
Is it any more of a stimulant than the betel nut concoctions that older Thai ladies have been chewing for years? I wouldn't know, having never tried either.
puukao
Does it make sense for police to spend time arresting people speeding in cars versus searching for a a drug ring? How about ticket for drinking versus looking for 100 kgs of pills? Or domestic arguement versus nuclear security? Look, it was low hanging fruit and i'm glad they got arrested. If they spent all their time creating the new iphone, that would mean billions to the economy!!!
drgoon
Going for the easy bust again rather than doing the hard yards to get 'real' criminals dealing in meth etc. Another PR exercise....

Yes, its got more of a kick than that betel nut <deleted>.....I have heard that, back in the day fathers would prefer their sons (or sons for that matter) in law to be a kratom user rather than a ganja user. The reason being that kratom promotes activity, its better for working. Well, thats what I've heard anyway......

simon43
The 60-year old grandmother of a friend of my ex was arrested last week for selling kratom leaves to the local teenagers. A night in jail and 10,000 baht 'payment' to avoid any charges...
