Let's face it, watching these F1 procession races is pretty boring...the most entertainment is often had away from the dull racing action.....the Chinese Grand Prix best keystone moment had to be when the track crew were trying to push Verstappen's car off the track and kept "crashing" it into the barriers.......would not want to get into a car with these guys driving! Let's see if we can nominate a keystone moment for each race for the rest of the season in order to generate a bit of comedy and a reason to watch this otherwise boring activity....over to you!

Of course, we could have a hissy fit of the week post as well. With all of the soap opera whingeing between Hamilton and Rosberg....they should just put these guys in the Octagon and let them go at it instead of all the needless chatter.

Was not going to reply to this thread as we already have a F1 topic...

But just to point out the best of the radio Chit Chat... http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-website/en/latest/features/2015/4/say-what--the-best-of-race-radio-in-china.html

I still recall after Nico's

“Lewis is driving very slowly, so get him to speed up. If I go closer, I destroy my tyres like in the first stint. That’s the problem.”

After a short time I recall Lewis's race engineer very calmly saying something like: "can we ratchet it up a little, new target time 1.39.700"

as only a few of the radio calls are broadcast I have visions of...

Lewis, "Why"

Engineer, "We are getting earache from the guy behind"

Well, the knucklehead of the week definitely goes to Hamilton in Monaco. Can't blame the team either, as he never usually listens to them....thanks to this and the Verstappen crash, an otherwise dull race provided 15 minutes of watchable entertainment!

So Hamilton called himself in for the tyre change did he?

it's called selective listening.....even Rosberg said he couldn't believe it and wisely stayed out.....looks some of the criticism against Rosberg judgement may have to be reallocated to Hamilton....

Hamilton was called in in the mistaken belief he had enough time to come in and get out and still be ahead. Had Rosberg been called in he would have been stuck behind Vettel at the very best.

Did you not hear the interview with Laura saying the crew on the wall f**ked up?

Then why have Mercedes said the crew messed up?

Oops......apetley beat me to it.

Apetley, you and me enjoy the spot and understand it...

Unfortunately the OP started this thread to knock the sport and is very anti Lewis.

To be fair Lewis did ask if he should come as he believed Nico and possibly Seb had already been in, after some hesitation he was called in, he asked, the pit wall made the wrong call.

Lewis was upset... that was clear, but his repose has been very sporting, no publicly spouting off blaming anyone, publicly congratulating and shaking hands with Nico, a lot different to last year and one thing for sure Mercedes is a very strong team.

Lewis will bounce back...

LOL....you have no monopoly on understanding this sport or "spot" as you call it! Also ur totally incorrect on all points stated...the purpose of the thread was very clearly explained at the outset and your failure to understand plain English, endlessly and monotonously sabotaging the thread and resorting to personal bullying attacks is unwelcome...go crawl back to your own thread if you do not like this one.....

Why two threads on F1???

If anything, this thread seems to be a breath of fresh air compared to that other one, where a couple of self-important blowhards ramble on and on about tire compounds......but in the spirit of Voltaire, I shall not object to the existence of that thread...no reason for anyone to try to curtail other's free opinion on this topic.....

Now, what I would really like to hear from bloggers, is what Hamilton should do about his hair....he definitely needs a new "do" as it looks like a tornado has passed whenever he takes off the helmet......I propose a sea urchin style Mohawk in which the spikes jump up when we takes the helmet off.....you never know, he might stumble by here and take aboard some of the suggestions......after we get his hair fixed, we can move on to Vettel's which is frumpy at best.....

OP, no need to worry....there are always trolls on threse threads trying to create fights and get the thread closed. Gotta love how these guys bandy the name "Lewis" about like they are on a first name basis with him!

For me, the keystone moment was seeing the announcer Brundle scurrying around before the race trying to get face time with drivers and being universally snubbed by almost everybody....including one of the Kardashian clan! The only people talking to him were B listers from the past century.......desperation maximus!

In order to improve this sport, they need to get rid of the radios in cars, eliminate team orders (or even teams, one driver/one team) and get some real manufacturers involved, not these rinky-dink outfits.....as it stands now, it is all aobut the marketing and very little about the racing, though that was a nice crash last week!

I thought you were jokin about the Kardashian thing...but lo and behold.....it is all spelled out here

Ok, Ok, technically she's a Jenner, but the Kardashian mother has target Hamilton as the new main squeeze for this star-wannabe lass......now the real question is, if Hamilton marries this girl, how will he refer to her father Bruce Jenner, mother in law, or father in law????

Looks like the OP may not have been far off the mark....

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/formula-1/revealed-lewis-hamilton-played-crucial-5780607

"Lewis Hamilton played a crucial role in the disastrous decision to pit in Monte Carlo, according to radio messages heard by Mirror Sport.

Until now the blame has been squarely taken by the Mercedes strategy team and their management.

But Mirror Sport has learned the team initially ordered Hamilton to STAY OUT when the safety car was deployed.

But they changed their minds when he radioed: “Are you sure it’s the best thing to stay out ? These tyres have lost all their temperature and everyone else is going to be on [faster] options now.”

The reply was: “Ok, copy, copy. Box. Box.”

Well there's your answer....if on a first name basis, Hamilton will call him Caitlyn!

Another boring qualifying for a GP.....hardly seems fair that one team has better cars than the others and their drivers, whether better or not, always come out on top.....I can remember a few years back when the very average Button won all these races in a row because he was the only one with a rear diffuser(or something like that)....

hopefully there will be a keystone moment in Montreal.....I think this is where Kubica did his great barrel roll a few years back....

Yeah that was a great crash , perhaps topped only by weber's reverse backflip....what they should do to get rid of the unfair playing field is like in sailing. Have some sort of a handicap for superior machines. Obviously the only reason the hapless rosberg and the slightly less hapless Hamilton win is because they are playing by different rules. Before them it was vettel every race for countless years, now he is an alsoran. Imagine a football match where one team has a bigger goal to shoot at, or tennis where one player has different boundaries....like most people, I only watch the highlights of the races looking for a trainwreck. Much too busy to watch such a contrived and boring motorcade!

Yes, but did the groundhog see its shadow???

Another yawner..........the highlight of the race was the groundhog on the track. Its lap-time was even faster than Alonso!

Posted (edited)

According to the pic on the link below, I can see a slight shadow below Punxsutawney Phil. However, being a cautious track crosser, he appears to have his head up, and staring down the drivers!

http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/groundhog-narrowly-avoids-gruesome-death-at-canadian-gr-1709674091

On a separate note, I read several drivers are now preferring the racing at Lemans, and even some of the track bigwigs are getting antsy. This sport is in big trouble. You heard it here first.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/formula-1/red-bull-boss-christian-horner-5915155

"Red Bull boss Christian Horner tells Bernie Ecclestone: F1 isn't exciting enough!"

Christian Horner has called on Bernie Ecclestone to end Formula One’s growing crisis as the entire sport hits the panic button.

The complex hybrid formula has been declared an unmitigated disaster as fans desert the sport in their droves.

Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix is set to be staged in front of a crowd that has almost halved in 12 months.

While Lewis Hamilton’s boss launched a robust defence insisting F1 would never be like “The Fast and the Furious” drivers are slating the cars, sponsors are deserting the billboards, while fans say the racing is just not good enough.

Double champion Fernando Alonso said last weekend’s 24-hour Le Mans endurance race was more interesting than F1.

Let's hope that the Austrian GP is not like the movie "Groundhog day", a boring and endless repetition of the races to date, though I would love to see Billy Murray as a driver.

Lovin' it!

"McLaren’s Alonso and Jenson Button have each been hit with a 25-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg, even though there are only 20 cars in the race."

Hope these ain't the same stooges calculating fuel loads...

Ok, I know you have been waiting! Here are your Austrian Grand Prix keystone moments.

1. Hamilton tops the keystone podium again. The terrible start and the amateurish crossing of the lines in the pit lane was almost unbelievable. His rude and unsporting behavior in responding to the questions of the extremely friendly and affable Berger after the race was the icing on the keystone cake!

2. Close second place to the cameramen who failed to capture a decent shot of the Alonso-Raikonen crash.

3. To Button for general ineptness. I have to scratch my head wondering how a driver with so little talent made it into F-1?

In fairness, the race was a bit better than some of the recent ones...

Make no mistake this was an excellent race....for the first 5 minutes. After that, it was more of the same drudgery.

Hamilton almost qualifies for the Keystone moment as his start was so slow, it looked like he was texting or maybe posting on Thaivisa. However, the Williams team gets it this week for not letting Bottas get past Massa and open up a lead....I do not like team orders as they seem to be unsporting and anti-competitive, but since they are part of the sport, they should have taken advantage of them....

Cannot disagree with your analysis, although honorable mention goes to the woeful Button, even Alonso managed to get something out of this race with the same car. I think the B Post even referred to him as Alonso's "hapless teammate"...that has to hurt!

Yawn....more of the same in qualifying. Hardly seems fair that one team has a superior car, and out-races everyone, even with average drivers.....

They may need to introduce a handicap system like in golf or sailing in order to make this more competitive.

This week we will make a predictive keystone award for the hapless Button....let's see what happens.
