Ferryboats added to facilitate tourists returning from Samui

SURAT THANI, 14 April 2015 (NNT) - Two big ferry companies operating in Surat Thani Province have added extra ferry services from Samui to mainland Don Sak District, in response to a great number of tourists waiting in long queue to take a ferry ride back from Songkran holidays.

Despite a few days left for Songkran celebrations, Director of Koh Samui Marine Office has ordered local marine officials to restore highest security by closely overseeing all marine services under the “Safe Pier, Safe Ferry to Save Tourists” campaign which will continue until April 19.

Records of accidents in Koh Samui from 9-13 April showed one death and 113 injuries. Among the injured, 51 were Thai males, 24 foreign males, 37 Thai females and 11 foreign females. Major causes of the accidents were carelessness and drunk driving.

There have been extras ferry services since before Songkran … I caught a 2.30 PM ferry from Donsak last Friday ..

Re Security .. not sure why they stopped giving all cars a close look when they borded at Donsak , They were until a few months ago …..

It is the obvious point of security and I assume they have reinstated these security checks ..
