Clutch needs replacing in Vigo Pre-runner 3.0D

Anyone had this done fairly recently to give me a guide price so I know whether I am getting a fair deal or being taken to the cleaners.

Local Toyota have quoted 14,000 baht.

Any info appreciated.

A clutch - in my opinion - is not the place to source a jobber part.

Does the Toyota price reflect genuine Toyota parts ? And does this include a pressure plate, clutch disc, and throwout bearing ?

Do they machine the flywheel to provide a flat, clean surface ?

All good things to know. If answer is yes, the price is not too bad.

The linked to thread is over 6 years old. Prices may well have risen in that time.

Very unlikely to need the flywheel machining.

An easy way to test for a worn clutch:

With the engine warm, apply the parking brake - hard. Engage 5th gear, apply some revs, slowly let up the clutch. If the engine stalls the clutch is good.

Also you will usually notice that when the clutch is worn, the biting point (when the transmission starts to take up drive) is nearer to the top of the pedal travel.

I would ask another local reliable mechanic for a quote as well. I assume your car is not under warranty anyway, so it doesn't matter too much where you take the car as long as they know what they are doing.

You could get a quote for 8k somewhere else, and then squeeze the Toyota's price to ~12k, and then decide where you wanna take it. The quoted priced are not final prices.

Sounds about right did the clutch in my Foturner last year at the big Toyota in Rayong and the whole bill came to a tad over 16k

You don't always have to machine the flywheel as a standard procedure

When I see a flywheel with those cracks etc I chuck it away......Most flywheels are so heat hardened you cannot skim them, must grind them....Chuck 'em.

And non performance stuff don't need a new pressure plate or anything, just the centre plate.

but of course, if your have got everything taken a part usually better to replace everything ,pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing

If the pressure plate's still 100 % okay, I'd only change the clutch disk and bearing. Might be 2 K for parts at a store where all the mechanics buy their parts.

Well and maybe 1 K for labor. If you're planning to keep this car until the end, then replace all. Good luck.
