Rescue teams try to help injured tourist from Thungyai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary

KANCHANABURI: -- Rescue workers have been trying to reach a seriously-injured female tourist who has been trapped immovable in the deep jungle of Thungyai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province since April 15.

The victim whose identity was unknown was among a group of four male and three females who ventured into the sanctuary to search for the origin of Runtee river which was reputed to be very beautiful.

However, during the trekking, a huge broken three branch accidentally fell on the back of one of the female tourists breaking a back bone rendering her immovable, according to a report from Mr Somchai Wutthipimonwittaya, mayor of Tambon Lowo Administration Organisation.

A team of rescue workers comprising Karen tribesmen who were well trained in first aids was rushed to the scene with two communication equipments and first aid tools. But because the scene is inaccessible by road or by air, the team had to trek on foot.

A second rescue team has recently been sent to the scene, also on foot to reinforce the first team which was reported to be exhausted from the trekking.

Meanwhile, the Ninth Division has prepared a helicopter at Vajiralongkorn dam in Thong Phapoom district ready to fly to the drop zone to pluck the patient out for medical treatment at the provincial hospital.

"Meanwhile, the Ninth Division has prepared a helicopter at Vajiralongkorn dam in Thong Phapoom district ready to fly to the drop zone to pluck the patient out for medical treatment at the provincial hospital."

Two days later, the helicopter is getting ready ....understandable because Thailand's only helicopter was busy the last two days, pretending to look for the missing American diver near Phuket, who went missing SEVEN days ago ....

So presumably 4 male and 3 female tourists were able to trek into this wilderness and some of them trekked back out to get help (presumably) and yet these native Karen tribesmen couldn't get to the woman before getting exhausted.

Something just doesn't sound right here. This reporter is leaving something out or not being told the whole story.

Perhaps transmitting the GPS coordinates of the injured tourist and sending in a chopper to evac her didn't come to mind...

Perhaps your reading the OP didn't come to mind...

"...because the scene is inaccessible by road or by air..."

Doesn't matter Loptr, eventually you will learn to read.....

Perhap you should have read Costas's post #4 before duplicating his comment?
