NACC seizes assets of ex-DSI chief

BANGKOK, 19 April 2015 (NNT) – The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) seizes assets worth 40 million baht of former director-general of the Department of Special Investigation Tharit Phengdit on grounds of unusual wealth.

NACC Secretary-General Sansern Phonchiak said a NACC committee probing the case of former chief of the DSI found there was evidence suggesting that Mr. Tharit’s assets relating to his unusual wealth had been transferred, transformed or hidden. The NACC therefore decided to temporarily seize the assets, including bank deposits, land, buildings and vehicles worth 40 million baht, according to Section 78 of the NACC Act.

The NACC also ordered Mr. Tharit to submit a list of assets and liabilities of himself, spouse and minor children within 30 days.

I would be happier, if he looked at his own background and fellow generals!

This is good news.

The knife is going deeper into the guts of the corrupt members of the Siwanatra clan.

I would have liked to hear the same happening to Chalerm, Surapong and many others.

But the day is still young.......It's coming to them.

If unusual wealth is the reason for this shouldn't there be more people getting the same treatment?

No doubt true. Step by step.

Ah, it's all about the Taksins again. And where did khun and recent honourable monk Sutep get all the money to feed his fellow - property devastating - protesters for more than three months, under the watchful eyes of Thai law enforcement? Just asking...coffee1.gif

Has any Thai government in recent history indicted so many fat cats in so short a time?

Keep it up.

At last we agree !!!!! The happiest day of my life will be when it is Chalerm's

turn for the knife . He is a symbol of all that is wrong with the Thai political

system, and deserves jail time. But I suppose he will just do a runner like

he did the last time to Denmark when things start to look bad for him. The

junta should freeze his bank accounts right now as a preemptive move....

Now we understand why all UDD and black shirts investigations were suspended

So.....

Head of CIB, Pongpat, caught for corruption. Check !!

Head of DSI , Tharit , caught for corruption. Check !!

It seems at this point that corruption goes from the local policeman

shaking down little businesses, to the guys at the very top. But
I already knew that. So who is next now ? Must be a lot of people

in Bangkok sleeping poorly now, or are busy transferring their money

out of Thailand and booking a flight to America.... :-)

In the normal course of events, the pursuit of those who have accumulated 'unusual wealth' ( some kind of euphemism for corruption) would be a good thing. However when it is one side pursuing the other and ignoring their own who have accumulated wealth through similar means, it is very dangerous indeed.

It's not about Thaksin.

Thaksin's stooges were the first to be washed out of the Augean Stables.

Has any Thai government in recent history indicted so many fat cats in so short a time?

Keep it up.

Surely not.. the PTP were masters of corruption. The only reason they wanted to hold on to power at all cost was to avoid this. Now an other party is there checking them and this is their worst nightmare.

You must be kidding. PTP= small beer, chicken feed, minnows, rank amateurs relative to some of their predecessors ( but maybe now that's considered 'old money')

I wonder if you realize that your own chosen "side" did the exact same thing when they had their turn at bat. Did you acknowledge it then? Or even recognize it? I'm guessing no.

PTP and the criminal Shinawatra clan small beer, chicken feed, minnows, rank amateurs... ?

You're the one who must be kidding. Tell me you are - your posts are usually well-considered.

Maybe - but if they'd got their sticky little fingers on that 2.2 trillion as planned, and brought the master home a free and untouchable leader?

I'm sure he'd have made the 450% increase in Shin family wealth during puppet Yingluck's regime pale into insignificance compared to future plundering plans.

Oh come on Prbkk, what's the matter with you today ? You are posting with your heart, not your head. Two wrongs don't make a right, does not matter what happened many years ago, this is now. If the Shins were in power we would not be reading stories like these, for obvious reasons.

The only people Thaksin hunted down were so-called drug related criminals, because he thought it would be a cheap way to buy popularity, and the only ones he attacked were the media, for printing stuff he did not want to hear.

Wonder how his park land encroachment case is progressing?

Wonder if he will be the weasel who spills all the beans on all the others? He's proved he has no loyalty and willing to change sides to suit before. Bet he's worried some others might think so too.

One group of protestors (arsonists/looters) was paid for their work, the other group was not. I let you figure out which one was which.

NACC freezes Tarit's Bt40.9 million worth of assets
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission has frozen Bt40.9 million worth of assets of former Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith on suspicion it had been accumulated unlawfully, the NACC announced Sunday.

NACC secretary-general Sansern Polchiak said the NACC suspected that Tarit was unusually rich so it froze his and his wife's assets until the couple can explain how they had acquired the assets.

Tarit was ordered to defend the assets within 30 days, Sansern added.
