Sirikit dam officials to undergo worst-case scenario drill

BANGKOK, 21 April 2015 (NNT) - The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has told residents living near Sirikit dam not to be alarmed while officials carry out an emergency drill on Thursday.

Mr. Suthep Lertsrimongkol, Director General of the Sirikit dam, said that EGAT will be carrying out a level 3 emergency drill, which represents a worst-case scenario.

In this scenario, a fire breaks out out at the power plant adjacent to the dam and is spreading to the surrounding areas.

Police, emergency staff, ambulances and fire trucks will participate in the drill. Mr. Suthep told residents living in the vicinity of the dam to remain calm during the drill, which will carried out from 08:55 - 12:00 hrs.

In this case advance notice is good planning. Thais are quite capable of getting it right.

Case 3 - if fire spreads - what happens if the dam collapses? Is that case 4?

"worst case" scenario is the collapse of the dam, mr director Suthep.
