Thailand's power consumption hits new high: Energy official
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's power consumption has hit a new record today at 27,139 megawatts, according to Deputy Energy Permanent Secretary Tawarath Sutabutr.

He attributed the new record to the persistent heat, with average temperature of 38.3 degree Celcius across the country.

He noted that it is possible that Thailand would make new records this year, if the weather condition remains unchanged. More power consumption is expected from all segments particularly the business sector.

"Primarily, the power consumption increased due to air-conditioners," he said.

The new power peak was recorded at 2.13pm today, according to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

The previous peak was recorded on April 7, at 27.056.8MW.

It is commendable to see the extent of solar power installations springing up around the country. Shows that at least someone is looking to the future.

Next step for Thailand: come up with and enforce a building code for houses which includes insulation in walls and ceilings.

So that all those airconditioners have something to work with.
