Where is the closest post office from BTS Onnut? I saw a little postal booth at the entrance to Lotus from the BTS on the 2nd floor. Sending 3-4 boxes of books, I have no idea how much these will weigh, but see on the thai post office site that 30kg is 4600.B to Canada.

Flying out on China Southern Airlines in 6 weeks, saw they have a cargo site, but not if they send smaller amounts around the time of your flight.

Also looked into Seven Seas from Bkk to Canada, couldn't get a quote off their site and haven't heard back from them yet, but their rates are also reasonable.

Thanks

Take one stop on the BTS, to Phra Khanong, it's right outside the station.

Great thanks! I know there is also one at Tonglor which might be even easier. Those little EMS outlets like at lotus onnut there, do they have the same thai postal service, or more expensive?

If you want to be sure that your letter/parcel actually reaches the recipient, I would 100% recommend to only use official Royal Thai Post outlets. The Thai Post is actually excellent compared to their counterparts in other South-East-Asian countries (except Singapore, which is great).

The Post office at Phra Khanong is walking distance from the BTS station so no inconvenience at all.

I had several bad experiences with "franchised" Postal service outlets and won't use any of them again

That Lotus booth is not a full service Thai Post place - only does express parcels at DHL/UPS courier-type rates as far as I can tell. If you want a regular 5-7 working day type delivery at affordable prices then Phra Kanong is the place to go (you need to head back towards On Nut a hundred metres or so if you are coming down form the BTS).

Don't go in advance of a big holiday like New Year or Songkran unless you absolutey have to - it's a zoo with everyone sending parcels home with gifts and comestibles. Took me 50 minutes to get out of there in late December. Thia Post were however boxing up everyone's stuff for them in their large range of ready-to-knock-up boxes. Dunno if they do that on an everyday basis (though clearly they will sell you an appropriate box).

On Nut could do with a post office now that the suburb is growing so fast with condo development. That plus some decent restaurants and the odd bar.

Upon arriving Phra Kanong BTS, take exit number 3... and when you get to the bottom of the stairs, make a u-turn and walk on Suk Road outbound toward both Phra Kanong and On Nut. The post office is about a block outbound toward On Nut.

Thanks! Aside from books, I want to send 2 small monitor speakers, and lots of old cassette tapes and a few VHS tapes, and CD's. Would it be 'safe' to send these this way by land?

Your OP above asks about sending stuff from Thailand to Canada...

So, what do you mean here by asking about sending things "by land"???

For anybody else reading this, there is no Onnut post office, well there is but it's nowhere near the BTS.  If you want to go to Onnut Post Office you have to stand on the opposite side of the road to BIG C and get songtaew number 1 about 30 minutes up the road.  You'll then turn left, go under an underpass and come back on yourself and then turn left again, back onto the road that you were on.  Once you go past the underpass part you're very close, look out for it on your right hand-side.

Phra Khanong post office is very busy.  Thong Lor post office is smaller and less busy, but still busy.  Both are right next to their respective BTS stations.

Nana post office is open long after the others have already closed.  So it's good if you wake up late on a weekend or something.  That's 5-10 minutes walk from the BTS, roughly half way in between Nana and Ploen Chit BTS stations.

Udom Suk post office is 5 minutes walk away from that BTS station, heading back towards Punnawitti BTS.  That place doesn't get many foreigners.

Nana always asks for a passport and they're generally really strict about everything, the others sometimes do and sometimes don't and one or two of them never ask.  Expect Nana to want to repackage your parcel (for a fee of course) even if it is the best-packed parcel in history.

As a general rule none of the post offices like parcels that aren't in box format.  In my country it's fine to send mailing bags, but not so in Thailand.  They want stiff parcels, so cardboard protection or any kind of box.  I generally pick up some cardboard lying around in Tesco or Big C and make a envelope-type parcel, because none of my parcels are big/bulky enough to require a box.  But you need to make it look pretty.  If it looks bad, they will want it repackaged.

Hello post office connoisseurs.  I've discovered a little post office (an actual post office not a mailbox shop) very close to Onnut BTS, or at least much closer than Seacon and Phra Khanong if you stay anywhere further up Onnut Road than Big C...

Onnut soi 28.  A quiet dead end soi which seems a strange place for a post office.

Early closing times - 4.30pm on weekdays.

Relevant to this Post Office thread; as others have mentioned, most Thai Post offices also offer packing services and sell a variety of different sized cartons good for most needs.  However, if you feel you need a stronger carton than the ones they provide, there is a very decent carton manufacturer who makes and sells very sturdy boxes very close to the Phra Khanong Post Office.

The Phra Khanong P.O. is on the corner of Sukhumvit and Sukhumvit Soi 69.  Go down Soi 69 and turn onto the first soi on the right. (Pridi-3) The box mfgr. is about 100 meters on the right side.  Just look for stacks of cartons.
