Trat:- A 48-year-old Irish tourist was injured when his pickup truck crashed into roadside trees in Trat’s Klong Yai district Monday after he dozed off, police said.

The tourist was identified only as Christopher from Ireland, Pol Lt Yodkhom Inkhai, an interrogator of Mairood police station in Klongyai said.

Yodkhom was alerted of the accident at 9:30 am Monday. He was informed by Khachornphol Pooltao, 53, a resident of Moo 3 village in Tambon Mairood, that a pickup crashed into trees on the roadside of Sukhumvit Road about 100 meters from the Kilometer Marker No 458. The driver was injured.

Yodkhom dispatched police from his station and rescuers from Tambon Mairood Administrative Organization to check the scene.

They found a black Mitsubishi pickup with Chon Buri license plate badly damaged. Its hood and top were completely damaged and windshield broken.

When police arrived at the scene, the driver had already been rushed to the Klong Yai Hospital.

The tourist suffered body and back injuries. He told police that he was driving from Mueang Trat district to Klong Yai ditrict.

He said he planned to withdraw money from a bank in Klong Yai and planed to drive to Haad Lek border town and he would visit Cambodia.

The tourist admitted that he dozed off while he was driving at fast speed so he lost control of the truck which swayed to the roadside and hit several trees before it stopped at about 50 meters from the road.

The tourist said he was saved by the safety bag.

Since he did not injure other people and did not damage state property, police did not find any charge against him.

Christopher from Ireland is very lucky he only killed some trees. What an idiot.

+1.

He should read about the poor girl in Chiang Mai who is facing a long prison term (and a lifetime of guilt), simply as an accident of where her indiscretion took place. It could have just as easily been an Irish tourist who mowed down those cyclists...

There but for the grace of God...

He's Irish, so I hope they checked his BAC while he was in the hospital. After all, the PM says they are going to crack down on drunk driving.

. Can we say Sterotype ...

I was scrolling down for the first poster to succumb.

Cue national stereotyping....especially where the Irish are involved. Whenever there is an Irish national mentioned there is always some reference or other to alcohol.

And before anyone remarks that these reputations are earned or deserved, take a look at yourself and your own country's habits and see if they are any really different.
