i have just finished 4 months of my 1 year course with *** School name removed by SlyAnimal as per name & shame rule***

i have paid for a 1 year 200 hour course and so far they have delivered 8 hours

how do i report the school?

is there a chance id get my money back?

im pretty sure there breaching some major laws, as the stamp for the ed visa is issued by the thai education board

on the privisal that im learning for at least 8 hours a week and that im actually learning, this is not the case for me not through y own choice but through the choice of the school, who have effectively robbed me

any advice

If you have been there for 4 months, you have already done your first extension of stay with them ? So you are happy to have the extension but want to report the lack of lessons ? Surely you should have left before doing the extension if the school is that bad ? (And then tried to get your money back, because at the moment, you are an enrolled and extended student).

Also, 8 hours a week does not equate to 200 hours a year :-)

And you should not be working on an ED visa/extension of stay ?

It sure seems like the OP is working in Thailand, and is also going to a language school. If working, he is supposed to have the proper permits which I doubt he has. So it looks like he is getting his extension of stay by "attending" a language school. Tsk tsk. But it does bring up the issue of how somebody that may act as a consultant or provide short-term on and off services to clients in Thailand could get a proper work permit. I assume there are software consulting firms all over Thailand that might be able to accommodate such a thing and the OP could get a work permit from them? Of course that would bring up payroll issues, and whether the OP is actually an employee of the agency versus getting paid directly from the Client firm.

I guess the OP could open a business, but doesn't that require hiring Thais, so many million baht, etc? Is there a mechanism for a consultant IT type of handyman to get proper work setup in Thailand?

I did read my post, i made it so i know what it says and no i didnt apply for a ED visa so i could work on the sly surely that would negate the reason i made this post??

also in your first reply you said if the school is that bad...i didnt say the school was bad or good i just said ive paid for this and this is what ive received so far....I just want to learn Thai

i have a post in the forum yes, as i think it makes sense if you are looking at issues with your current visa and want to stay to at least research the area you want to work in, all sites on the list were completed while i was in my home country, my visa is to important to mess about with. As per the end of the post its all developmental to see if there is interest if there is i can look into that avenue of employment

so any chance we can get back on point of the post.....advice on non delivery of hours from a language school

As for the issue of not getting what you have paid for with the language school, you may well just have to bite the bullet and accept the loss of that money. I think it would be close to impossible to get a refund, especially in a place that is well know for being run by a few "families".

The other option would be to just let it be, and hope that the lessons do start to materialize.

Maybe the OP is just a digital nomad like the rest of us? if he do not receive his earnings in Thailand but overseas working online he is one of many here . The language school is a different matter.

TV is such a secure web site that the labor department and Thai Immigration can never monitor the post here on TV!

Maybe they are just sitting there , smiling and waiting for you to come in and file a complaint about your school who is breaking the laws?

Go give it a trywhistling.gif

OR...

as bigt3116 so astutely researched and pointed out, the Labor Ministry (it's not a department) is just sitting there, smiling and waiting for you to come in so they can address the illegal work done by the OP. ;)

It does not matter where you are paid, or even if you are paid, the important fact is that the work is done whilst in Thailand on an Ed Visa/extension of stay.

You are working in Thailand an don't pay any tax here. this is illegal. Better stay quit about the lessons. A bit late too if you start complaining after 8 hours of lessons after 4 months. Should be complaining after week 3.

More from you:

http://freelancing.stackexchange.com/questions/2907/keeping-up-with-client-work-and-emails/2963#2963

I run a web design company in Phuket Thailand, initally you costs need to be reflective of you area (geographical) at home (UK) id charge £400+ for a wordpress site buy here im lucky to get £250 - £300

wordpress sites are less costly as they take less time to develop from your end as all you really doing is taking a template and customising it as opposed to sitting in a room for hours typing out endless streams of HTML

I work on a 35% down to cover theme costs setup charges as i help with domain name purchases - hosting purchases i pretty much take care of everything for the client, this is a good and bad thing in some way as i have complete control over the project and its online presence - however i would not advise taking a contract for less than 35% down

Maintenance is better done as a monthly but to show good faith i usually say if anything goes wrong in the first moth ill take care of it, but i do provide a pdf on how to use the wordpress backend to limit the amount of times im called upon - i have 15 clients that i work with and i get a ton of referral work mainly due to the support and costs i operate on

Maintenance is general upkeep of the site (monthly) redesigns are one off payments and generally cover the entire of the site or at least and good proportion of them

I hope this helps Gareth

Labor minister doesn't care about illegal workers, of which there are millions in Thailand.

I'm not sure who you'd report them to, however I've removed the school's name from your post as we don't allow "name & shame" posts on Thaivisa due to Thailand's strict defamation laws.
