Jeffreyake
I think the best solution would be fabphil's idea- buy an island, build the whole infrastructure on US's expense, buy food (Americans like to spend freshly printed dollars on this) send them there and let's see how fast they will start to kill each other. It will be another collapse of all left-socialist ideas. Finally UN will have to give them external administration and tough colonial police. Foreigners, serving there, will get enormous salaries. And this system, I believe, will be able to protect them from themselves and manage to support a stable society for them. In the future all illegal immigrants will be send to this island. lol Edited May 15, 2015 by Jeffreyake
2fishin2
Isnt it appalling how some of the TV people can make and poke fun of such a dire situation for a fellow human being? I find it disgusting.
robblok
European as well as Asian countries must push these boats back to avoid internal unrest. Boat people or possible future boat people must understand that they don't find open doors and open arms, when trying to enter illegally another country. Only if this is very clear to them, they maybe will stop their illegal attempt of migration. Only controlled and legal immigration will be accepted by the majority and therefor can lead to growth and stability of those countries, who are able and willing to accept migrants. Forcing Governments to accept certain numbers of migrants ( like they plan in the EU now ) is a very bad idea. Let Myanmar deal with this ( his ) problem, as other countries in the past had to learn to deal with theirs as well. Easy to say when you were at least born entitled to one nationality. These sods, of all people, deserve a bit of sympathy given they aren't even recognised as citizens in the country they and their great grandparents were born in... YOU take care of them then.....My country fought, starved to create what they have. Not to mention (like my own country) robbed the countries that are now in trouble blind. We do have some responsibility here.
Berkshire
A simple solution would be to ship these migrants to Japan. Japan has a huge shortage of workers which is only getting worse due to the declining birthrate. These migrants could greatly help the Japanese economy and provide a much needed pool of labor. But this will never happen. Why? Because the minute that Japan opens her doors, a flood of poor migrants from all over the globe would be making a beeline to the land of the rising sun. It would quickly become unmanageable. That's why no country wants to open their doors to poor migrants.
2fishin2
Isnt it appalling how some of the TV people can make and poke fun of such a dire situation for a fellow human being? I find it disgusting. Perhaps folk are tired of folk trying to enter their country by what ever means.... Even first world countries folk went through crap and came out the other side cos they dealt with it eventually....My country hung folk for stealing a loaf of bread... I guess the point of my post, you dont understand. You people are laughing at pregnant women and children stranded in an old wooden fishing boat in the middle of the ocean with little to no food or water. <deleted> is wrong with you people. Put your cynical view of politics aside and think about the actual situation fellow human beings are faced with.

Would folk actually know what diamonds are that are under their ground.... A weeee country like the UK are GIVING zillions of pounds of tax payers money to India (and others), a country of near a billion people that has nuclear weapons. Crazy... Your country (and mine else I am accused being a basher of English) was one of the great colonizers and made its fortune on the back of other countries. The UK and Holland would not be as rich as they are now if we had not robbed the world. Most of the countries in Europe have done so. Slavery.. robbing of earths riches and so on.. We are not innocent so we can pay a bit now and again. We stole robbed and murdered enough. Sure it has to stay within reason but never act like we are so good.. we are not. NickJ
Just what is the percentage of Bangladeshi? Scott
It has been going on for quite some time. A look at the number of camps found would indicate it was a well oiled trafficking machine and it was well known to officials in Thailand who were profiting from the situation. We have yet to find out who and what was happening on the Malaysian side, but chances are they were also profiting. The uncovering of the slave conditions for many and the killing and extortion of others has exposed this situation and made the profiteering not possible. The people now have little value to their countries of destination and no value to their countries of origin.

JockPieandBeans
Myanmar must bear the ultimate responsibility. Good luck with that. Myanmar's government has said it is not responsible for the migrant boat crisis in south-east Asia, and may not attend an emergency summit on the issue. Thailand is hosting a meeting on 29 May for 15 countries to discuss ways to address the crisis. However, Zaw Htay, director of Myanmar's presidential office, said his leaders would not attend if the word "Rohingya" was used in the invitation, as they did not recognise the term. "We are not ignoring the migrant problem, but... we will not accept the allegations by some that Myanmar is the source of the problem," he told the Associated Press news agency. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-32766748

Dare say it has been a night mare that has been happening for quite a while for these people. A couple of generations at least. But no matter, it offends our sensibilities here on TV that they have the temerity to try and get out now so that is all that counts. Most of the rest here worked the hard yards and whacked the 'huge' amount of GBP 16k in a bank account for the privlege of turning up sight unseen. Oh, and we're lucky enough to to be born in a county which issues travel documents and bothers to call us citizens...
