Does anyone have experience with getting a dental implant (for 1 molar) in the area of Sri Racha, Chonburi, Pattaya?
What did it cost (total price including crown)? Which type of implant? Which clinic?
Thank you.

I have personal experience with three implants in Si Racha, at Phyathai Hospital dental clinic. These were done at various times over the last couple of years.

These were all rear teeth and I paid a fixed 40,000B for each, plus a "nursing fee" of a few hundred Baht. This price included crowns and panoramic X-rays but did not include pain-killers etc (which I didnt need). One implant also required a bone graft which cost about 8,000B extra.

I am very pleased with the result and the job done by this specialist lady implantologist. I would not hesitate to go there again for implants at that price. I did find their prices for regular dentistry to be rather high, though probably no more than at other hospital dental clinics.

I saw that the price of an implant very much depends on the brand of the implant and not so much on the clinic.
Prices go from 35000 to 100000 per tooth.

That's a big difference.
40000 is not expensive The prices have probably gone up. I'll check it out. Thank you.

My last one was done there just a month or two ago.

Thank you. I just went there. I'll add a bit extra information for other people that might consider getting implants.

The price in Phyathai Sriracha has gone up to 50000B all in which is still reasonable.
They use (Korean) Osttem implants which are about the cheapest on the market, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are less good.
Prices of Osstem implants start at 35000B in other smaller clinics (all in), so 40000 in a real hospital is a really good price, 50000 seems acceptable.

One of the clinics which calls themselves "thedentistclinic" on Siam square seems to have the cheapest, price, until I told them on the phone I was a farang - then the price went up a lot.

They told me they use double pricing,

Some places double price so they can keep the price for the Thais down. I had a doctor on Koh Samui do that, but because I lived there on limited means and no insurance, he charged me Thai prices.

In Thailand you need to establish if the dentist has done a 'short course' on implants or has done a 3 year residency. It relates to all the disciplines of dentistry ie orthodontics, veneers etc. Implants are not that difficult to do and a dentist who has only done a short course on implants will probably still do a good job. However, the job will be done better by a dentist who has studied the 3 yr residency specifically only on implants.

I went to Phayathai, sriracha, they said the price was 45000 all in - except medicines.
When I went to pay they added a "nursing fee" and "medial supply fee", which they never talked about before (460B), I am supposed to pay this hidden fee twice (=920B).
Medicines are greatly overcharged. 14 antibiotics pills and one small bottle of mouthwash : about 700B.

Doctor was very good.

It went very fast and totally painless.
Afterwards also no pain.
Still waiting the crown.

Conclusion: very good, but little bit surprised when I got the bill.

Nursing/medical fee is not hidden - it is the starting point for any hospital visit and always the base charge before doctor or procedures. It is like a facility/entry charge. Doctor quoted his fixed price for the 45k quote and medications are always quite expensive from private hospitals - but some of that may be justified by better storage conditions and more careful dispensing (checking current pill taking/reactions).

I guess it would’ve been better if you got your treatment done in Bangkok. I’m not quite sure with other clinics around BKK proper but on my own experience, the two clinics I went to (smile studio in silom and bangkok smile in asoke) are very transparent with my tab – no hidden charges or what not. In fact, one of them even gave free online and in-clinic consultation for free, just don’t remember which of the two. Unfortunately I don’t remember their website address but I suppose you can google them.

Well, if you're not informed about it in any way (either about the amount of existence), it looks pretty hidden to me. 3 people quoted me : 45000, all included (รวมทุกอย่าง), except medicines (in Thai).

I normally go to government hospitals and have never been charged such a fee.

It's not much money compared to the whole package, but hospitals should communicate better about it and make advertisement with the full price or at least tell the customer about it.

Yes, they should.

These extra unexpected fees are one of the things that really annoy me about Thailand. That said, it's true that all the commercial hospitals (to my knowledge) do charge this hospital/nursing fee so it should only come as a surprise once. blink.png

For the overpriced medicines, yes they all try that trick too and the answer is to refuse to buy the medicines from them. Just ask for a prescription and buy them from some outside pharmacy of your choice. You could easily save 60-80% of the bill, maybe more, and I struggle to see any reason or justification for this apart from profiteering. Some items can only be sold by hospital pharmacies (strong drugs) and so for these you have no choice.

I did warn you about the "nursing fee" in my first reply.

I agree. Implants are fairly easy to do but I like to have a specialist do them just in case something goes wrong or the job turns slightly tricky.

I remember that when I started looking around for quotes in Pattaya two popular dental clinics (who both do implants along with general and cosmetic dentistry) looked at me, took xrays, and said that the implants could not be done because "not enough bone" or "too small a gap". As they both agreed with each other I wrote the whole idea off. Several months later I was having a "free" dentist consultation at Sri Racha as part of their annual health-care package and their dentist said "why dont you have implants done for those teeth". I explained that I thought it wasnt possible and he said "let me ask our implantologist". She popped in, looked in my mouth, looked at the xray and said "no problem, I can do one now if you like". And she did, and it went perfectly. The other she did a few months later, with a bone graft.

Ever since I would ALWAYS stick to specialists, even if they cost more (which in this case they didnt).

I was quoted 20,000 for one tooth in Sriracha last month.

For an implant? This seems impossibly cheap.

Yes, you did. But has been a long time ago and i didn't read this post before going to the hospital.

But, I would like to thank you for advising to go there.

I general I am very happy, and without any doubt I will go there again,

after consulting about the price of course, because they seem to fluctuate the price very often, just waiting a few months saved me 5000 Baht.

At one point I was also quoted a higher price for one implant. It seems that it depends on how many they buy at a time from the manufacturer (direct importing?). In the end she did it at 40,000B the same as the others.

Prices depend very much on the brand.
If you don't ask about the brand you'll get the most used brand in South-East Asia: Osstem.
This is also the cheapest brand on the market (and it's what I got in Phayathai Sriracha).
I don't think this brand is much used in the West, which might cause problems later on if you're moving back.
Prices in Thailand start at:
Osstem: 29000
Hiossen: 35000
Neoss : 39000

Astratech : 45000
Straumann : 60000
Most reputable clinics charge much more than the these prices (for instance 45000 for Osstem in Phayathai).

Thanks Kriswillems [emoji106] this looks very accurate and if one wants a full ceramic crown like EMax or 3M Lave then prices even more . You are replacing body parts so if that's a priority then to really investigate may be useful .
