CHIANG RAI: -- Local officials yesterday inspected the damage Monday night's storm did to over 100 homes and public structures in Chiang Rai's Phraya Mengrai district.

Nuttisuk Puma, president of the Mae Pao Sub-district Administrative Organisation, said yesterday while inspecting the wreckage that the storm caused extensive damage, particularly at Moo 4, Moo 8, and Moo 18 villages.

Of the 100 houses and public buildings damaged, two houses were completely destroyed, he said.

It is interesting how localized these events are. This area is less than twenty kilometers from us but we experienced only a little wind and rain, nothing out of the ordinary. Very unfortunate for those who end up being in the direct path of the storm, however.

Those storms are getting worse indeed.

The storms are very patchy, you can see them in the distance but up till yesterday we've personally had little rain here in the past couple of weeks.

I've planted some small fruit trees that I've been hand watering.
