Bts Fare Rises

Featured Replies

Recently, the BTS "monthly" pass card (really, a card that allows for 30 trips, no matter how quickly you use them) and some other fares went up.

The full adult fare went from 540B for 30 trips to 600B for 30 trips. The student fare went from 365B (I think) to 450B for 30 trips.

I can afford the rise, of course, although I think it is a bit high. But for students, that's a *lot*... if they have to buy 2 cards a month, which is probably normal, that's an additional 170B a month- a lot of money for most students to add to their budgets.

I guess it's true that they're really beginning to build the extensions- and they haven't had a fare increase for a long time- but I think it's going to hit the students disproportionately.

According to the government all fares will drop to 15 baht once they complete 300km of new lines.

Another solution - buy a car, driving is cheaper.

If there are 300km of new rails, I think considering the potential crowding (and no express rails) it will only be worth 15B... the buses might be preferable at that point! They really need to make some express lines!

I assume this is meant ironically?

You would hope so!

But probably slower and more stressful. :o Then you have the cost of the car etc etc. Never mind. You were probably taking the piss! :D

You sure they didn't say "5 bath" ?

My mistake.

Yeah, but each time you feed it into a machine, only 18 Baht gets taken off the card, meaning you should get 33 trips per card. Not sure if this is just a mistake in the machines, though, as I'm yet to see what happens when the card reaches 60 Baht left, maybe it expires at that point.

:o Well when face with the choice of driving, taxi or the BTS...I think a bit or rate rise woulnt hurt if it meant greater coverage

You realy must realise that your near the bottom of the barrel when you think a small increase in BTS fares warrents starting a thread.

Nice to know someone's there at the bottom of the barrel with me, though... :o

I recently reached the end of one card- 6B left and no usability. I'd guess someone hasn't reprogrammed the system yet.
