Red & Yellow Politicians 'Invited' to Discuss Junta's Reforms

BANGKOK — Politicians from Thailand's two rival political camps have been asked by the military junta to attend a forum on its national reform efforts this Friday.

Officials say the politicians were invited by the junta’s reform-promoting agency, the Center for Reconciliation and Reform (CRR), which has organized several forums in the past for prominent political leaders, academics, and activists.

Independently organized forums on politics remain banned by the junta, which seized power in May 2014.

According to officials, the upcoming forum will be held on 19 June at the Army Club in Bangkok. Among those invited are top leaders from the Redshirt movement - which supported the government toppled by the junta - and their rivals, the Yellowshirts, who campaigned against the former government for six months prior to the coup.

The Redshirt-affiliated invitees include former Pheu Thai Party politician Chaturon Chaisaeng; Pheu Thai spokesperson Anusorn Iamsa-ard; Pheu Thai economic adviser Pichai Naripatapan; chairman of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) Jatuporn Prompan; and deputy UDD chairman Nattawut Saikua.

The new Charter is definitely part of the reform "roadmap".

It seems inconceivable that the Charter would not be a central topic of these discussions.

Military junta summons Jaturon, Jatuporn for attitude changes



BANGKOK: -- The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) today summoned redshirt leaders and Pheu Thai party (PT) executives for meeting under its "attitude change" strategy.

Jatuporn Phromphan, chairman of the redshirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, and PT senior executive and former education minister Jaturon Chaisang were among the first group of people to arrive at the Army Auditorium on Vibhavadee Rangsit road for attitude change discussion this morning.

Nattawut Saikur, former deputy agriculture minister, was also among the first group summoned. However the redshirt activist has asked for postponement till end of the week.

Jatuporn said before an hour attitude change meeting that authorities asked to know his opinions on the draft charter amendment, and the current political situation so that they could forward views to the prime minister.

He said what was different from previous attitude change meeting was that this time it would be individual meeting stead of group meeting.

These people have no practical reason to be there, much better to have a big screen television hooked up to Skype so they can all nod their heads in agreement with what ever Thaksin says.

I have really got to laugh at times, doesn't matter how much the anti Red Farangs here make their comments about who should and who should not get a say, even if the Devil himself was a Thai, he actually has a much greater say about Thailand's future than some obscure Farang's with catchy nome de plumes on an internet forum, where pretty much none of them have a say about how Thailand should be run.

Are the likes of Jutaporn ideal to represent their parties, hell no, but that's down to the Thai's they represent to resolve.

If The Farangs here have a say, why not put yourself forwards to becoming a voice for the people, otherwise really, all opinions here are about the same as farting in the wind.. but definitely good entertainment value

Its fun to discuss the news your guilty of the same thing. Just like some people love discussing soccer.. you can't influence that either. Things like this keep your skills on level and keep you informed and you read others opinions.

Exactly Rob, it should be fun, as really there's no point in getting upset about variables out of our control. It gets too serious, for me I just like the sarcastic comments, and light hearted banter, but there's some who take their opinions deadly serious, and get upset, and like 90% of the political forum, descends into a slanging match.. over some Thai's who couldn't run a bath, never mind a country?

I learn a lot here about people, I make enemies because of my opinions, but I also make friends too, at the end of the day, haters will always hate, and when they're talking about you, it means they're leaving someone else alone

I like the diversity and different opinions, as said there's some who post here get upset when their opinions get trashed, we're talking about so called mature, and in some cases senior citizens... bizzarre, for me, it's an interest only, for others it seems like it's a must that they post their comments, and seize the opportunity to rip into whatever faction they oppose, most of the time I post here it's because I'm either alone and bored, or it's something decent to read about.

If TVF were to shut down tomorrow, my life would not change a bit, it's a place to learn, and contribute, and make friends, it's not my lifeblood, I fear however, that to many this is the only communications they have on a daily basis. They'd be lost without it.

Thai Politics are not worth getting wound up about, what gets me wound up is the farangs who seem to believe their opinions actually have weight, and mean something.... I hate to burst that bubble, but these opinions, like mine don't mean a single thing.

What does mean more to me, is the contents of PM's where you can learn far more about people, and their thoughts away from the bun fights of the forums.

Differences set aside, level headed communications, there's good blokes here, hell I actually like djjamie, and him and I are at each others throats like cats and dogs at times, but he's actually a very nice guy, and he's helped me out on something, away from the heat of the topics, I have actually a lot of respect and time for the lad.

As for this topic, does anyone seriously believe that the dialogue is a two way participation? Even in this thread there's a headline about "summoned for attitude adjustment" which is in stark contrast to the OP..

The Junta and their stupid attitude adjustment crap really does make them sound like bullies, the PTP are getting a taste of their own medicine, but the divide within the country isn't even remotely close to being healed.

I stick to my original beliefs, this is all smoke and mirrors, it's the stuff that doesn't make the Thai mainstream news that's more interesting, I use my times overseas to read the banned stuff, and view the blocked pages, this is just a big game right now and the stakes are as high as they get.

Scoff at such superficial attempt too. These are only foot soldiers who have no influence over events last 10 years. You want reform and reconcilation, get the heavy hitters involved. One party may not want to admit involvement so really an exercise in futility.

You have a big set of brass ones to harp on about facts... fact... the Junta can't stop having coups, and interfering in politics.
