Phuket environmental activist Sirinee dies

PHUKET: -- Environmental activist Sirinee Yomana, founder of the Phuket Environmental Protection Group, passed away yesterday due to cancer.

She successfully led a campaign against a plan to build a tantalum plant and later succeeded in saving Tha Chatchai, a major pristine area in northern Phuket, from a takeover attempt by a foreign billionaire. Sirinee's former name was Kanokporn.

Her cremation is planned for this Wednesday

She created value for her life. Che created change for good.

A determined and ultimately successful lady and I should not be surprised if her cancer was stress induced. She fought for what she and her followers judged would negatively affect their lives and defeatec the hi-so developers.How sad that her life should end this way.
