Japan frees Kamronwit, to be back in Bangkok tomorrow



BANGKOK: -- Former Bangkok police chief Pol Lt-Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang was freed today after the Japanese state prosecutors decided not to file charge against him, Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol KT Gen Prawut Thawornsiri disclosed Monday morning.

The police spokesman said latest report he received from the Thai Embassy this morning said that the former metropolitan police commissioner was released today after the Japanese prosecutors didn’t pursue criminal charge against him after considering he had no intention.

The embassy said he will return to Bangkok tomorrow.

According to Matichon Online, a source close to the former senior police officer’s family said the family has booked him a flight back to Bangkok and will arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport at 2 pm Tuesday.

Earlier Matichon said his family and lawyers gained confidence that the Japanese prosecutors might not charge Pol Lt Gen Kamron after they had checked evidence and listened to testimonies from relevant people that the former Bangkok police chief had no intention to carry gun on board the plane to Bangkok.

It said under the Japanese law, it looks into intention of a person a significant factor.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit was arrested on June 22 at Narita airport after a .22 mini revolver was found in his carry-on baggage.

So, he wasn't carrying a loaded gun on to a plane then, that's a relief. I expect Kamronwit to sue any and everybody that defamed him by stating that he did do it.

The alternative to the above scenario is that Japan is not serious about people with clear and proven terror links from attempting to carry an illegal loaded firearm on to a commercial flight.

FYI the American Toyota executive that was in Japanese jail for almost a month, on suspicion of importing prohibited medicines, was also released without charges.

Japanese prosecutors dropping charges against Kamronwit

BANGKOK, 13 July 2015 (NNT)- Japanese prosecutors have decided not to indict Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thoopkrajang on chages of bringing a gun onto the plane, the Royal Thai Police has disclosed.

According to Royal Thai Police Spokesperson Police Lieutenant General Prawut Thawornsiri, the Japanese embassy in Thailand has informed the Royal Thai Police that Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit will not be prosecuted.

The Spokesperson said the reasons the charges had been dropped at last were likely based on the relationship between the two nations, and the former Metro Police Chief’s testimony that it was not his intention to bring the weapon onto the aircraft.

Upon his return to Thailand, Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit is to be further questioned why he had the gun with him while travelling to Japan. Police Chief Police General Somyos Poompanmuang said carrying a weapon on board is only allowed when permission from the airlines and related units has been obtained.

As I predicted the deal was done. I wonder how much his family and he had to pay to get the relevant Thai ministries to offer something to the Japanese and then negotiate it out.

You see, "Thainess" does work overseas, you just have to change the currency. (to trade deals and BOI privileges)

We all know who to fly with now if we want to take our hand guns on board because you never know when it could come in handy if there happens to be a hijacking then we can shoot the bad guys.

I think this was a good ending to an unfortunate situation

It most have been a mistake by the Japanese to hold him for two weeks.

That will be the story from his spin doctors when he gets back.

And, of course, Thai authorities will not investigate how the gun passed through Bangkok airport security in the first place.

So the message here is: try to board a plane with a gun in Japan and if they catch you, you get a maximum of two weeks in prison.
