CDC reaches resolution on the powers of impeachment

BANGKOK, 16 July 2015 (NNT) - The Constitution Drafting Committee has resolved to give both the Parliament and the Senate the power to impeach a holder of political office accused of certain wrongdoings.

Spokesmen of the CDC Pakorn Priyakorn and Supatra Nacapew on Wednesday joined a news conference on the impeachment of political office holders.

They said that the CDC meeting had agreed that the Parliament should have the power to impeach a prime minister, members of the cabinet, members of parliament and senators if they are accused of any of six serious charges.

The types of wrongdoings that can lead the Parliament to impeach them are unusual wealth, committing an act of corruption, malfeasance in office, malfeasance in the justice system, intentionally exercising power contrary to the provisions of the Constitution, and seriously violating or failing to act according to the code of ethics.

The CDC spokesmen said that the Senate will have the power to impeach any member of any of the organisations set up under the Constitution and ban them from politics for five years if they're found guilty of an offence.

Well, since the senate is going to be primarily appointed and can impeach, and one of the charges is "intentionally exercising power contrary to the provisions of the Constitution" -- they are locking down all future elections and any government amending the constitution.

We all saw it coming.

Here it is.

An unelected Senate should not intrude on the will of the People.

Government should be the vehicle of the People driven by their permission.

If an unelected Senate becomes a part of government, it should remain a back seat driver only able to give advice and direction.

So basically the appointed senate can impeach anyone on motives that can be easily subject to biased interpretation..... and is the only one that has power on the so called independent organisations, committees, assemblies....

Appointed people in charge of controlling other appointed people! I would not be surprised if the so called independent organisations, committees, etc... had a say in the selection of senators... :)

The perfect feed-back loop in place for self- control and self-reproduction of their network!
