Prepaid mobile phone services, including data

Featured Replies

I stay 6 to 7 months at a stretch in Thailand each year. Previously I had True post-paid mobile service but gave this up last year. Now would like to get a prepaid service - mainly for use in Bangkok, though occasionally outside to major cities/towns. I need limited local calls and also some data/wifi (I think less than 500 mb per month should be enough). Finally, I would also like to be able to keep the same number although I may be away for 5-6 months at a time.

Grateful for any advice on what might be the best service to look into.

thanks, Al

Recommend True prepaid. And there is True I smart package which is 299 Baht and you get 2Gb Internet usage

With the True SIM card you have - you should be able to buy prepaid service. The packages include 'Data' 3G that works as a WiFi like connection service for your phone... And in your phone a WiFi Hot Spot Service can be turned on to supply WiFi for a Tablet or Laptop.

Your telephone calls and SMS (Texting) is most often in another 'top up' fund ... Which also can be used to pay for the 3G Data Package

But these two services areas are technically separate ... when using Prepaid Services.

You didn't mention if you wanted 4G LTE...at this point TRUE has the only extensive LTE network. All the providers have methods of extending your validity. Just ask when you sign up. I do suggest you go to one of the service providers larger sales offices where there will be English speaking staff who can explain your options.

Thanks for the replies. Will give True prepay a try.

TrueMove H or DTAC might be the best options. Both offer decent 3G and 4G coverage; and both offer the most spectrum. Both offer the ability to extend validity, by paying 2 baht/30 days up to a max. of 366 days. Both offer Smartphone packages (bundled voice and data), or you can just pay by the minute for voice, and subscribe to a 500 MB monthly recurring data plan. TrueMove H has a better WiFi program/coverage.
