Unable to Use Pop 3 Down load or receive mail via Wifi

i have a Black Bold 9900 on contact with O2 in the Uk and have done for many years ,I try not to down or upload via the phone net work .I tend to go to the local coffee shop and connect to there Wifi and been doing it this way for years , However I did notice in the middle of last month that I could connect to the Wifi but was unable to down load any mail via pop3 and that the only way I could get my mail was to connect direct to the server and even after a few days I could not even do that . After a few days I did get access to my mail but only going direct to the server or via the phone net work .

I have tried a few wifi links that in the past have worked but not now , I was wondering if its got any thing to do with all pre paid mobile phones in Thailand must be registed since that was inforced on july the 31st about the same time as my problem started . As for the registering my Thai pre paid I knew nothing about this until the other day when I went to make a call and was told my SIM had been Suspended so it was a trip to my local AIS agent with my passport as for the black Berry problem I can only think it got some thing to do with this new requirement or is it one more way to try and get more money out of you forcing you to use the local phone network..

Any Thoughts from any one with the same problem , I have reinstalled all new firmware into the Black Berry but its still the same so the problem seems to be the network work so if you want to down load your mail via pop 3 you must connect via the phone network.

I just checked my POP 3 email on Android phone ( BT and Gmail ) using my home WiFi ( TOT ) working fine.

Maybe you made a mistake somewhere in your POP3 settings double check POP 3 server address, port number,

user name and password.

Or Blackberry "updated" something while you weren't looking laugh.png

Or ( unlikely ) your local coffee shop/s might have cottoned on and now only allow HTTP traffic.

Thanks for the reply I have not changed any settings on the black berry but its not just one account its all Pop3 accounts of which there are 3 but its all started about the end of last month . First the all pop3 forwarding stopped and then I could not even contact the internet via my WiFi , All the other equipment in the office here Lap Top and smart TV still work fine via the WiFi link .

So I thought maybe there was a problem with My TOT FORTH Router or the Black Berry 9900 so I did try the Black Berry on a few other WiFi links in the local coffee shops and bars and it was the same , So I reinstalled new firm ware 7.1.0 Bundle 2061 and it was the same , I can connect to the internet but still not pop 3 forwarding so next I am going to replace the service books and see if that helps .

But I had a feeling it was something to do with this new law requiring you to register Thai pre paid mobiles , I know this is a BB is a O2 mobile and not pre paid just seems strange how the pop3 service all went off about the end of last month , So I will replace the service books and let you know , If I pop down to Malaysia or Singapore I will see if I have the same problem .

Thanks again .

If only I could find or remember and not sure whether it is related...

I read misc posts/infos about problems with using POP3 in Thailand (stopped working).

Many if not most of Thai IP adresses appear on spam blacklists.

You should check/compare with this:

http://whatismyipaddress.com/blacklist-check

My (dynamic) IPs are on the spamhaus blocking lists eversince.

The problem could be fixed by enabling/enforcing some encryption authentification in the POP3 settings.

Maybe I find it...

Thanks for your feed back KhunBenq yes its very strange but its been working fine and not a big deal since I pay a flat rate for internet but it was just some thing I noticed in the office on my lap top when mail was coming in on my accounts but nothing was coming in on my black berry unless I switched on the phone net work link . But I will try deleting the old service books and replace them and see if I still get the same problem .

But it was just the way it was turned off last month that had me thinking because first Pop3 forwarding then the main link but after a few days the internet started to work but still no pop3 , Problem is from what I can see the BB but if its still the same after changing out the service books then I dont know very strange

KhunBenq may be onto something.

I'm using non standard POP 3 port 995

simple username and password

but checkbox ticked on " this server requires an secure connection" ( SSL)

Well I sorted the problem out , I deleted all service books on the Black Berry 9900 , Removed the Battery and Sim then reinstalled the 3 email accounts and now it works via WiFi however I did receive a email from Black Berry telling me to agree to Authorization for my gmail account to syncing my contacts and calendar information , They give you a URL thats good for 120 minutes for you to agree in the syncing after that you need to apply for a new URL .

Its clear its just one more way of being able to check your mail and details without even connecting to your smart phone or lap top because every thing is copied to the server .What next I wonder ?

Does your email provider give you the option of IMAP?

Better option IMO for mobile devices than POP3.

No they dont give any other option but its working now but like I said you must agree for them to sync all your contacts and calendar information if you dont agree by clicking the URL your wifi wont work . Anyway its working now but with Black Berry you never know whats next ?
