  • You were using a type of entry that did not made you gain any new time in Thailand. Which is different from the OP case. There are hundreds of similar reports, it is know for a fact, you are even to

Experience with my Cambodian GF at PB last month. we drove down to Penang to get her 1 year ( this would have been her 3rd) 1 year non B visa, she has a wp an all paperwork they refused her as of

  • I am truly surprised to hear these 'stories'. I have been using Sadao for 10 years ... never had a hiccup ... never been asked to 'sit down' .... never paid a bribe ... but then again I'm American wo

What efforts have been made to report this alleged corruption?

To who ?

Immigration. also if you are stopped again have main immigration head/police phone number and tell officer you will call head office. or maybe look like you are about to take picture. Sounds like whole post is corrupt and needs to be reported to head office of police.

From my understanding of the law a single person is only expected to show 10,000 baht and 20,000 baht for a family. I also find it amusing that people who are abusing the tourist visa system to live in Thailand are the most vocal when it comes to screaming about corruption. Staying in Thailand is easy enough if you so wish but like most things there is a little effort and expense in doing things the legal way.

As said I have never had any issue with immigration Sadao, Chaengwattana or Samui Even with a days overstay at Sadao waiting for a friend to arrive from Koh Phangan.

Well today they were trying to hit up most of the foreigners. If the foreigner didn't have the proper visa, Thai border patrol were asking them to show 20,000. Prior to arriving at the border drivers were advising tourists of this. In addition, spoke to several Phillipino teachers who advised that even though they have work permits they are getting harrased and are just putting in 100-200 Baht to avoid the problems. You can go to ATM near the border and use if you don't have on you.

Now, even if you did have the proper visa, they were making excuses and trying to delay stamping the passports.

Try to make sure you have your docs in order and be able to show 20,000 if they decide to ask for it...

What is being complained about ?

A quick check of the MFA website will reveal that those seeking entry to the country should be in possession of a stated amount of cash .

Why use emotive words such as "hit up" and "harassed" to describe something which is perfectly legal?

What does 'trying to' mean ? They either were or weren't .. Did they ask you ? How did you avoid the shakedown ?

The drivers are in on the scam too - just like the 20B OT scam and the 20B to fill in your arrival card at the point down the road.

After a couple of times watching the drivers disappearing into the office to drop off a tip, without a receipt I just refused.

Also refuse the arrival card service and let them threaten you with the 'I'm not waiting for you while you fill one in yourself' .. Nothing happened, but I saved 80B for the wife and I.

Same with the 100-200B in the passport, of course they will tell you, they get a cut !
