PM'S 'STATE OF THE PEOPLE' TERM USED TO HELP EXPLAIN GOVERNMENT'S ECONOMIC POLICY

BANGKOK: -- LAST SUNDAY, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha amazed the country with his use of the term 'pra cha rat' (a state of the people). Since then, the term has remained in the spotlight, whether it's just a gimmick like others in the past to help create a brand for the government or a serious economic policy initiative that Prayut wants to implement to boost the people's potential.

Rehearsals for late supreme patriarch’s funeral procession to take place in Nov-Dec

BANGKOK, 27 September 2015 (NNT) – The cremation ceremony for the late supreme patriarch has been scheduled, and the rehearsal of the funeral procession is set to take place in November and December 2015.

The assistant abbot of Bowonniwet Monastery Phra Sakayawongwisut has revealed that the royal cremation for His Holiness the late supreme patriarch has been scheduled for 15-17 December 2015 at both Bowonniwet Monastery and the crematorium of Thepsirin Monastery in Bangkok.

He said that the temple is now publishing the biography of the highly revered monk to be distributed as the token of remembrance at the cremation ceremony.

On the rehearsal of the funeral procession, the assistant abbot said it will be conducted five times, two of which will be minor rehearsals during 9-13 and 16-30 November 2015 to be held in the compound of the First Army Area in Bangkok. Commerce Ministry to address border trade slump

BANGKOK, 28 September 2015 (NNT)-The Ministry of Commerce is expected this week to address a border trade slump in Songkhla province, after trade value fell short of the target during the first eight months of this year.

Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantaraporn has instructed relevant units to act quickly to identify what has hampered trade on the Thai-Malaysian border.

Songkhla’s trading activity normally accounts for 50% of the total value of border trade in Thailand each year. However only 316 billion baht's worth of trade was generated on the Thai-Malaysian border since January, despite a target of 1.5 trillion baht.

The Commerce Minister claims that factors contributing to the decline may include the low prices of rubber and electronic goods.

The Ministry of Commerce will set up a duty free zone and increase the number of VAT refund service counters, as well as extend the opening hours of Sadao border checkpoint as preliminary measures to promote growth in trade.
