madmitch Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 It appears that the Karon/Kata area is at last getting its own (sort of) supermarket with Makro apparently opening at the corner of Patak Road and Taina Road. May hit a couple of the local stores but for many it will be a welcome addition to the area.
LivinginKata Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Seems unlikely given there is a Makro in Chalong. Cannot see a Kata branch having that much business. I'll need to check out that location, I guess it's the land that the old Orbator offices occupied = government land.
NamKangMan Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 This is good new. There's a shortage of supermarkets on Phuket.
madmitch Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 This is good new. There's a shortage of supermarkets on Phuket. There is in Karon and Kata! Not everyone has transport and, as I think you may be aware NKM, public transport in Phuket is a tad on the expensive side!!!

They build so many shopping centres on Phuket that none of them make a profit. Then, they start "The Phuket Supermarket Association" and they ALL rise the price, for EVERYTHING in the shop, so they all, over night, become profitable.
madmitch Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 The land in question was a jungle 3 days ago. Now completely cleared. Signs everywhere with the Makro logo on, apparently organising staff interviews already, though I can't read Thai so can only go by what I have been told. So it seems Kata is to get its first supermarket. Mark has really expanded since being taken over by CP.

Well, at least they have traffic lights at that intersection, so it should not be too dangerous with traffic pulling up and departing from there.
