FIFA suspends Thai federation president Makudi for 90 days

ZURICH (AP) — FIFA has suspended Thai soccer association president Worawi Makudi for 90 days.

The FIFA ethics committee says a breach of its code appears to have been committed and the case "is now the subject of formal investigation proceedings."

Details of the allegations were not provided in Monday's statement but Worawi has been under investigation for his conduct during the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding contests.

Worawi was a FIFA executive committee member for 18 years until May.

In July, Worawi was found guilty of forgery in his 2013 re-election to lead the Thai federation. A Bangkok criminal court sentenced Worawi to a suspended jail term of one year and four months.

Independent Ethics Committee suspends Worawi Makudi from all footballing activity for 90 days

(FIFA.com) 12 Oct 2015

The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has suspended Worawi Makudi, the President of The Football Association of Thailand and a former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, from all football activities at national and international level for 90 days. The ban is effective immediately.

The decision was taken pursuant to the FIFA Code of Ethics art. 83 par. 1, on the grounds that a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough.

This decision against Worawi Makudi followed a request from the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély. The case is now the subject of formal investigation proceedings.

The hammer falls.

He completely denied any corruption yet the English FA accused him of asking for favours in the 2018 and 2022 bidding.

Who is likely to be telling the truth Worawi Makudi or the English FA?

They just misunderstood him, obviously. Because they are stoopid foreigners. Obviously.

Fifa bans Thai football association chief for 90 days

The Nation, AFP

BANGKOK: -- Fifa on Monday banned Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi for 90 days from all football-related activities with immediate effect for it said to be a breach of its ethics code.

The adjudicatory chamber of Fifa’s Ethics Committee based its decision on the grounds that a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough.

The decision against Worawi followed a request from the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély. The case is now the subject of formal investigation proceedings.

Worawi was a FIFA executive committee member for 18 years until May - including for its 2010 vote for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups - and has faced multiple allegations of wrongdoing.

The 63-year-old was found guilty in July by a Thai court of forgery in his reelection as head of the Football Association of Thailand.

Worawi told AFP he would fight to save his name and intended to stay in the Thai election even though he is banned immediately "from all football activities at national and international level for 90 days."

"I am confused by this, I just heard the news," he said.

"I am not guilty of anything. Under Thai law I still have the right to appeal (the July court decision). I did not falsify anything, what I did was absolutely legal."

His ban follows matching suspensions handed out to embattled outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter and European football boss Michel Platini last Thursday.

Fifa just another bunch of ignorant foreigners who don't understand Thainess.

No such concept or word as ' ethics ' here.

Mind you Fifa Ethics Committee ranks with Military Intelligence as one of the greatest oxymorons in the English language.

Everybody is yammering about what a bad thing and a tragedy this is, am I the only one who sees an opportunity in this sea of naysayers?!

With Sepp stepping down. Who stands better qualified than Worawi Makud to lead the Beautiful Game in the 21st Century??

When you compare FIFA and a Thai soccer executive equivalent, it would probably have to be declared all square.

I hope they are not suggesting corruption by a Thai official.

Worawi told AFP he would fight to save his name and intended to stay in the Thai election even though he is banned immediately "from all football activities at national and international level for 90 days."

So the rules of FIFA does not apply to him? As with a lot of the other football bosses, he is really a good example of complete lack of sense and duty that plagues the FIFA executives. They are not acting in the best interest of football, but only their own interest. I am sure he felt very much at home with Blatter and Havelange sharing a common interest of greed.

If you remember, he allegedly promised to vote for England in the 2018 bidding if they came to play an international friendly in Bangkok. He voted for Russia and he cried when England cancelled the game.

Very disappointed. FIFA should ban him for life, not only 90 days.

Actually, this is the good news for Thai football supporters.

The English FA gave the Thai FA a friendly in Bangkok in exchange for a vote for the 2018 bid. When the English FA didnt win they cancelled the match. The British are a teflon nation. Corruption throughout but none ever seams to stick.

Exactly who are you talking about, the English or the British ?

The words are not synonymous or universally interchangeable.

thatll be the English FA who promised to play Thailand at football for his vote.

No doubt he was selling the TV rights for such a game or had some part of them.

English FA are just amateurs at being corrupt.

Both. And I am talking about the establishment not the people.

The only reason the people aren't seen as corrupt is because they don't get the chance.

Would you like to name one country where the establishment and wealthy elite aren't corrupt?

Given the English FA's previous on such issues, it does appears to be a close call.

Just look at their efforts to secure the Thai vote for the 2006 bid.

I was wondering already how long it takes if somebody within FIFA of the "hub-country" will be called for corruption...

Just wait until they start wondering how all the Thai clubs have attracted stellar coaches and players for their holiday in the sun. This Fifa malarkey will run and run

They just misunderstood him, obviously. Because they are stoopid foreigners. Obviously.

No when translated it was written and understood the wrong way. it is a translation problem, 5555555555

Its all just expensive staged entertainment, too bad the law enforcement dept have to waste tax money on it.
