Where to buy... replacement black plastic bug screen mesh

Featured Replies

I have two types of bug screen - ones that have metal (aluminium?) mesh and ones that have plastic.

Can you guess which is which?

I went to Phuket town before to get some damaged ones repaired, but that was the place that used the metal mesh that has now corroded.

Anyone know a place where they can fit black plastic mesh?

Most of the small shophouse alumininium window places will do what you need JetSet.

Dotted all over the island

Would n't it be nice if the metal mesh had slightly bigger holes and then the whole door/window could be plugged into the mains or re-chargeable battery?

I bought some at Global House. I think any of the big stores have it. 1 note. I thought it came in 1 meter width but it is 36 inches.

Thanks, GOM! I'll pop along and have a chat with the people there.

Much obliged!

Hey, GOM! What a little gem that shop is! I took one screen that was particularly bad from my kitchen at about midday.

There was a Thai lad there - about 17 years - and he said it would cost 120 baht! That's about half what the Phuket town shop charged. He said to come back at 4pm. He had v. little English, as did the even younger girl who was there yesterday evening on her own and couldn't really tell me anything, but she did show me the black plastic mesh that they had.

So I went back at 4 to pick it up. I had already removed the handle from the frame because it was loose and badly scratched by the Phuket town shop when they replaced the mesh several years ago - they must've laid it down on the handle side while they worked on it on the concrete floor. rolleyes.gif

Only the girl was there at 4pm and the frame was ready with a note "130" on it. So I thought that was fine and gave a tip. But when I got it home I realised that he had fitted a brand new handle, and it wasn't loose! So that was what the extra 10 baht was for!

I'll be going back there over the next few days with all the other bad screens.

Thanks again - and the mutual acquaintance - for the tip. biggrin.png

That's about the price I pay in a small aluminum shop in Nanai 2 for a full screen replacement. Previously we used a bandit in Sai Nam Yen, Patong who wanted 500 baht for the same job. We looked elsewhere.

Good to know what the real "Thai" price is for this stuff. The Phuket town shop I went to replaced the aluminium cross-member on a frame because it was broken and charged an extra 20 baht. I thought that was a good deal at the time, but didn't know then how much they were gouging me on the rest.
