Get your booties down to Jomtien for the one last night of the fabu BAA HOP FANG Carnival Festival in Jomtien.

Yeah, Baby!

ONE LAST NIGHT!

Tomorrow, SUNDAY 8 November

I never expected to see anything quite like it in Pattaya.

More like something you'd expect to see in a hip district of Bangkok.

It's geared towards young THAIS but don't let that stop you from checking it out.

What is it?

Well here's the sign:

Fun unusual festival type food. Too many sweets. More sophisticated and different than a temple food fair.

Lots and lots of shopping.

VERY ORIGINAL STUFF!

Very different than the horrible tourist schlock you see on Beach road for the festivals there.

Amazingly original t-shirts but alas only teeny-tiny-pre-Thailand-obesity sizes.

Maybe for holiday GIFT shopping to get some original merch.

Not mass market. Boutique-like.

Music stage. Good Thai acts. Don't ask me who they are.

Where is it?

Tappraya road.

Across the street from View Talay 2.

Next to Jomtien Complex.

HUGE SPACE! Wow!

It was crowded tonight but not so crowded that you couldn't manage to walk through. Unlike the hellish beach road festivals.

Cool barnyard straw sitting spaces. Yee Haw.

What are you waiting for?
Because the last night is SUNDAY.

...... the last night is SUNDAY.

Thank God for that.

Personally I was only bothered by the traffic but I dread to think what the noise must have been like for the people who live on the Jomtien side of VT5D and VT5C, or the Pattaya side of Jomtien Complex, or the front of VT2A.

Such things should never be allowed in residential areas. Festivals like this (and indeed all forms of outdoor music) should only be held in areas like Silverlake etc., far away from civilisation. Lack of sensible zoning and planning is one of the big problems in Thailand.

It was not real loud when I was there prior to 22:00. As you got close to the entrance you could not hear the music. My woman said "fang" means hay bale.

They did a nice job preparing the lot. Not geared for foreigners so of coarse there needs to be some grumpy old guy complaining.

If it wasnt "geared for foreigners" why did they hold it slap bang in the middle of a residential area of several thousand condo units, almost all of which are inhabited by foreigners?

Some strange Thai logic, I suppose.

Sounds perfect logic from a thai point of view. Only the farangs get inconvenienced by the noise and traffic. Why have it where they live?

I was surprised about the crowd given the location too. I think about 100 Thais for each foreigner. 90 percent under 30. No bar girls. The businesses did not seem local. It was like not Pattaya in Pattaya.

Anyway, with the heavy rain now and the dirt surface of this carnival, I'd say maybe not such a good idea to go tonight. Oh well!

Yes this insane raining is unfortunate for them. I'm in view talay and was surprised by the massive turn up for it last night and was going to see what all the fuss was about but don't fancy being knee deep in mud tonight

JT, yes the vendors looked from Bangkok to me. As for the location I see the logic. The traffic on weekends throughout low season seemed to steadily be increasing. A place like Sketch Book Cafe has seen a big increase in Thai custom on weekends, hard to get a seat anymore but dead on weekdays. What this says to me is more Bangkok home & condo owners are spending time here on their weekends.

Hey!

It's on again tonight!

Much more food. Not a table in sight. Crowd is much worse than before.

Crowds?

Or better, depending your outlook in life. Seemed like more vehicles yesterday. Every teenager in town must be here. Good to see Thais enjoying life here too.

I bet the two or three thousand nearby condo owners are just delighted.

I can see it now from my balcony @ VT2a and I hear nothing. Are you a guest of this country or from that country the rest of us hate since you people think you own the planet.

So it's a regular thing now I'm guessing?

Pretty likely from they amount of business being done. My girlfriend and I walked around the first one and the booths were selling merchandize that is not the norm around here. Maybe tied into holiday weekends.

A typical Thai clusterfluck in the wrong place. Traffic is nuts, with lots of halfwits walking everywhere. But nobody sees the lunacy.

Lets wait until we have a few fatalities, Then it will be not our fault, somebody else's fault etc.

As all of the nearby residents will know, there was another two day event this weekend, the music started in the afternoon, about 4pm I think, and went on to around midnight. I totally agree with all of the comments by Kitten Kong.

This seems a great idea but located very much in the wrong location.

Thanks for posting. I cheked the link and that must be that the large area with a FARM sign which I do not see in the pic here. Is it over now or will this continue? It looks worth checking out.

If you can see it but not hear it from your balcony then the music must have stopped or you must be deaf. I walked past earlier and it sounded pretty loud to me.

I dont know which countries you like and hate; I just like a bit of peace and quiet. Those who want to have loud and pointless night markets should have the wit to hold them in places other than bang in the middle of high density residential areas, that's all. And if they dont have that wit then local government should just force them to do it. That's what local government is for.

It's not as if there is any shortage of unused land here for such things. Another option would to have the market without the pointless noise, like the weekend market in Thepprasit. The traffic wont be any better but at least it wont annoy people inside their own homes.

There's nowhere near enough respect or consideration for other people here. Just endless grasping for money. It's they who think they own the planet and dont care at all about others.
