Why the gaps in the Honda range?

Featured Replies

Honda sells over half of its models (sometimes in limited variants) now in Thailand.

However there are a number of models which they don't sell here. Here are 3 I would consider if available. There are more.

CBF1000F - would retail around 550,000 Baht

VFR800F - that would be around 650,000 Baht

NC750S - should be around 270,00 but looking at the price of NC750X, would be around 350,000 Baht.

Can anyone shed any light on why some models are brought here but others not?

Is it a marketing ploy, forcing people up to more profitable models?

Is it that they bring models here only to compete with Kawasaki?

Is it that the import taxes formula works more heavily against certain models or certain cc bands?

Some models are not made for certain countries possible scenario is agreement between countries as to which models are offered for trade, same same world wide as in specific models of cars etc.

Yes, I see. e.g. Honda's range of 125 cc models are very different to those offered in Europe.

I am not sure your theory would apply to the 3 example models I put up. I wonder if there is any blocking of certain models by the government here. Models need approval generally before being sold here.

Bikes assembled or manufactured here have a different tax level : BMW F800R dropped 250k GS dropped 280k when they moved assembly here.

Bikes assembled here by Honda are competitively priced (500 series, 650 series) Those they import are not well priced unless they, in turn, are manufactured in a country with a reciprocal agreement such as Malaysia or Indonesia.

The models you mention would have to be imported from Japan and would be priced uncompetitively. Plus the market for big bikes is only in its infancy here. Wider ranges mean more stock and bigger write-downs as nobody wants to buy last years model without a hefty discount.

Sure models are for example: You won't find a Yamaha Grand Filano in the US.

Honda,Yamaha,Kawasaki, and Susuki all have manufacturing facilitit's here. That's what keeps the cost down. Their marketing research just may show that it just wouldn't be feasible to offer those models here.

Further research on the net shows speculation the CBF1000F has gone out of production so that would explain one of my 3 examples.
