Which is the best Overall Company Apple or Microsoft?

Judging the company from there founders " Steve Jobs" and "Bill Gates" To there operating systems, there contribution to modern Technology, to what they have given to modern society.

Apple is the praise of all my friends now who have the money to purchase a tablet, but then are they just saying that because it chic to own a iPhone or and mac.

Best at what? you have your Apple fans you have your Microsoft fans, Apple soft ware more stable and there built a reputation over many years suppling quality phones tablets and pc's, Microsoft is now only getting into that, they had a failed attempt to re launch the Nokia phone, as a pc phone or tablet Apple kills the compertion dead in ever area but price, as a company making money Apple kills them dead once again....why? because of there strong marketing thats brand recognition they also don't pollute there range with a whole host of cheaper models, 2 iPhones 3 size macbook 2 or 3 configurations of the one macbook etc etc...resale of Apple products is normaly very good, they also don't flood the market with TV's vacuum cleaners etc.

Best All Round Company, Your opinion and why?

I think Microsoft as one I am a fan and there software and hardware is quality at the right price.

Neither is particularily good. I strongly dislike the business practices of both. I prefer the more open nature of windows, but am not a fan of windows. Apple products are seriously overhyped and over priced.

This is being written on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, which is definately overpriced, but otherwise the best tablet I have seen and used.

You should have included a third option:

"Both are crap!"

It is like asking, which is better: Coke or Pepsi, BMW or Mercedes, Beetles or Rolling Stones etc

It basically comes down to own preference and taste. Some will like Microsoft more than apple, some will like apple more than microsoft, some will hate both and others will love both.

For me, I enjoy apple products. Easy to use, reliable, very few headaches. What I do not like ( which I like with microsoft better ), is the ability to customize your hardware and software more. No way you can custom build your own mac with a specific case or power supply etc, nor can you for example install programs in specific folders.

I think that Microsoft is a bit ahead with certain things and are catching up on things they fell behind. I think apple will have serious competition on the way again.

But, Microsoft's computers are more common.

I personally feel Apples products are better. I use both Mac and Windows PC's - my Mac is far less trouble, but I need the PC for some specialised software with work, my Mac is for personal use.

IF you stay within Apples manicured and pristine garden life is easy... stepping outside that walled garden you can be more free with what you do, but you also have more hassles.

IMO - Apple has better products (for me to use), its the better company.

I think I would go with Intel who started it all with their 8008 chip, my first computer before Microsoft or Apple even came into existence.

As for people, there were and are may persons who have and continue to freely contribute to the evolution of computing and software.

If the question is being asked based on who has made the most money, then I'd have to go with Apple at the present time, although I've never owned or expect to own an Apple product, but then I always purge Microsofts OS from any computer I buy and replace it with a Linux distribution.

Could you add Linus Torvalds to the name list?
