BANGKOK: -- Former Democrat MP for Bangkok Wilas Chanpitak has urged Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha to invoke Section 44 of the interim constitution to scrap all the special training courses organized by independent organizations for senior government officials and members of the private sector.

He claimed that most of these training courses were intended to allow senior governments and company executives to get to know one another and to build up connections which are mutually beneficial to both parties.

He said that he had checked the lists of participants in several training courses and found out that several of them were not connected in any way with the independent organizations and, in some cases, whole business families, attended the courses.

The ex-Democrat MP cited a field trip to India of the participants of a special training course organized by the Constitutional Court despite the fact that there is no Constitutional Court in India and, moreover, several of the participants were retiring officials.

Without naming names, he claimed that one independent organization staged four training courses in a row, spending as much as 21 million baht in taxpayers’ money as the courses included overseas trips for the participants several of whom businessmen.

He explained that the involvement of businessmen in most of these courses was intended to let the businessmen to bear the financial burden of the field trips abroad.
