" As the New Year is just a few weeks aways, the prime minister has advised heads of government departments to prepare gifts for the public."

Use any reason to placate the public. Even if it's not their traditional holiday. Since they are stealing our holiday for their benefit, maybe the should repay us by granting more reasonable long term visas like Cambodia and Vietnam. Oh...I forgot the holiday they are stealing is New Years, not April Fools Day.

It's a good thing that there are no elections planned, else this might be interpreted as vote buying.

Let's just call it a one-off "Popularity Investment".

So he's advocating that the government, which has helped itself to your money through taxation, now spend your said taxes on buying you a Christmas gift? And the second little nugget is that he is proposing that shops lower their prices on certain items (let's call this a "Sale" for arguments sake) around the Christmas and New Year period. I believe that retailers in some other countries may have already stumbled across that piece of marketing genius.

Could no be called "populist policies", I assume?coffee1.gif

Because that is a thing of the past, right?!

"Populist????" That is sooooo 2005. Like Enoon, I prefer "Popularity investment." That makes it completely different.

No need, already available with the exception lowering the tax on booze.

Would not the greatest Christmas gift for the Thai people would be for the Army and the Police to migrate to Cambodia taking all the Politicians with them ?

So , What makes you think that this would be good for Thailand ? Are you from or have lived in a country that has experienced this ? Or are you just thinking like an emptied headed alcoholic with no thought of the reason for licencing hours and other laws?
