There's a very small room. 12sqm. 3 x 4.

We want to put a 9000 btu aircon in there.

There's already a TV, PC without sound system, small fridge, fans etc.

The power going into it is only listed as 5 amps.

We'd rather no upgrade to 10 or 15 amps unless need be.

We also want to put a 9000 btu AC in there.

Should the 5 Amps be enough for adding the aircon to the what's in there already??

Cheers.

Your OP is redundant? IE: you say you want to add a 9K BTU A/C and then you say it again. Are you wanting 1 or 2?

Well anyway... a 5 amp breaker will maybe handle one 9K A/C as on full power they run less than 5a. But, you would not be able to run hot shower, kettle, etc. same time. If you are needing 2 A/C's then no, 5a is not enough.

You don't say if you're in the jungle or apartment somewhere - which would make a difference.

And, by 5 amp, are you talking about the meter rating or a breaker?

The meter outside states 5 amps.

This would be the only AC.

Other electrical items such as a small fridge, computer, lights etc. would be running at the same time. Location is inside a town, not out in the sticks.

Thanks.

A 5/15 meter will handle a 9k aircon (4A when running).

Do you have a kettle, microwave and particularly a water heater?

Any of the above may open the incoming breaker (what size is your incomer?) if it's on when the A/C starts.

That said, we managed in Italy with a (to me tiny) 15A incoming breaker, 3 A/C units and a tank water heater with the breaker only opening once a day or so.

yes, those are all in there.

A 3.5kW water heater along with the A/C will be pushing the envelope (about 20A when running together). Making a brew as well will likely take you over the edge.

What rating is your main breaker?
