Windows 10 - Problem Downloading Updates

OP,

I can understand your concern about not being able to download directly for Microsoft, but with that being said here's another website (TenForum) where the KB31133431, which supposedly replaces the problem prone KB3132372, can be downloaded. Link.

I can also understand your concern about just getting the update(s) to download via Windows Update, because there will be more updates coming. A person wants the Windows Update function working.

Pib

Hi Pib, downloaded the appropriate version of KB3133431 via your link, but when I opened it I was presented with a message from the Windows Update Standalone Installer that the update is not applicable to my computer! However, I have just checked my Windows Update and KB3132372 and KB3133431 are again listed as being available for download, as opposed to being constantly 0% downloaded. Think I'll just leave things be for now. But I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you and everyone else who has gone to the trouble of clearly explaining possible suggested solutions to my problem. Although these may have all turned out to be unsuccessful your efforts are still very much appreciated.

OJAS,

Go to the link in my post above, scroll to the: "Direct Download KB3133431 Offline Installer" and download what you need from there.

Problem solved.

Please tell me that you have already installed the updates manually.

If not, look here

For KB3133431 MS says you can only get through Windows Update. See Note under How to install update. No mention of the second method offered many times where you can download the msu (Microsoft Update) file to manually install the update.

For KB3132372 MS says you can only get if through Windows Update for Win10 (but you can get it manually for some earlier Windows versions like Win 8.1). See Note 1 under Method 1 in below link. But from what I've read KB132372 caused problems for a lot of people and KB3133431 was released a week later to patch/fix KB3132372.

Post #3 seems to talk primarily a different update of KB3087040

Looks like it'll be down to wifey's IT expert pal to sort out this problem for me then (if he can)!

Words fail me....

Well, words certainly failed you in posts #3 & #15, when you merely provided a couple of links with zilch by way of any advice or explanation of your own to guide this particular IT simpleton!

Post #3 indicated that a manual install was the solution. Post #15 tracked them down for you as you couldn't find them yourself.

If you hover over the links, you will see that they are delivered from http://download.windowsupdate.com/ In addition you can compare the files to the hashes available.

Instead of further confusing a simpleton(in your words), I supplied the links, together with the source.

Thank you for your ingratitude. Noted.

I kept it simple for you. Clearly not simple enough. Click, install, reboot. Done.

Thanks Jiu-Jitsu,
The update worked just fine on my desktop Win 10 64 bit. Downloaded it from:
http://www.softpoint.in/download-kb3133431-adobe-flash-player-update-for-internet-explorer-edge-browser.html , installed and rebooted the system. Checked and it shows: "Your device is up to date. Last checked: Today, ‏‎11:05 PM"

Thanks, Mike. Am pleased to confirm that I managed to download KB3133431 via your and Jiu-Jitsu's link. Then did a reboot for good measure even though one was not prompted for. Presumably no need to download KB3132372 now, though, since, if my understanding is correct, that was the duff update which KB31333431 sought to correct?smile.png

Thanks also to Jiu-Jitsu along with apologies for my grumpiness in posts #26 & #27wai.gif

We now await the latest round of bulk updates which MS usually "inflict" on us during the second or third week of each month...whistling.gif

OJAS,

Hopefully getting those flash updates installed fixed your updating problem. The test of that probably came today. I got three updates today/13Jan....a Silverlight security update (which may or not apply to you), the monthly malicious software update, and a cumulative update. See below snapshot from my Windows update area which shows those three and the two earlier flash updates.
