Another legend gone.R.I.P..just curious why they won't say what type of cancer he had.sad.png

one of the bad ones at a guess. and probably 'cos it's not really anyone else's business and ultimately doesn't matter.

An idol and everchanging iconic figure from my youth.

He's the Starman now.... so very sad.

There's a starman waiting in the sky
Hed like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
Hes told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile

Loved all his stuff. Music that stood test of time. For some reason loved YOUNG AMERICIANS. I'm not even a yank. Thanks David.

He was a real hero to me in my youth. I saw the ziggy stardust show at winterland in san francisco, 1972. He was barely known in the states at that time. The vast majority of the audience had come to see the second billed band, Cold Blood. When Bowie came on, the audience consisted of about 50 SF drag queens, and a few others, including myself. However, he played again 2 weeks later in LA, and we drove down to see him again. In that 2 weeks, his fame had skyrocketed, and he sold out a big amphitheatre in LA.

Tears coming from my eyes, RIP Starman

get over it already, he was just a rock star for God's sake.

And you are.....?

According to his profile, a rice farmer from Isan...Fascinating

I live in a small village in Isan where i am very happy. I get on well with the people here even though i don't speak khmer, they can all speak Thai. I, or rather my girl friend, grow rice. She has a great deal of land and its a lot of work,i help now and again but prefer surfing on the Internet.

I think that's about all

There is only a handful of musicians that penned and performed the soundtrack to the most exciting times in my life. David Bowie is without a doubt a leader in that handful of artists. I am feeling a great sense of loss at his passing. It is comforting to know that he died peacefully with his family beside him.

The music, fashion and creativity that so easily transports me back to wonderful times long since passed but through Bowie's music can always be vividly remembered.

Favourite song: Heroes.

because we were, well, just for one day. That is how it was for me back then.

Iconic singer David Bowie dies at 69

MESFIN FEKADU, AP Music Writer

NEW YORK (AP) — David Bowie, the innovative and iconic singer whose illustrious career lasted five decades with hits like "Fame," ''Heroes" and "Let's Dance," died Sunday after a battle with cancer. He was 69.

Representative Steve Martin said early Monday that Bowie died "peacefully" and was surrounded by family. The singer had battled cancer for 18 months.

"While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief," the statement read. No more details were provided.

Bowie turned 69 on Friday, the same day he released a new album called "Blackstar."

Bowie, who was born David Jones, came of age in the glam rock era of the early 1970s. He had a striking androgynous look in his early days and was known for changing his looks and sounds. The stuttering rock sound of "Changes" gave way to the disco soul of "Young Americans," co-written with John Lennon, to a droning collaboration with Brian Eno in Berlin that produced "Heroes."

He had some of his biggest successes in the early 1980s with the stylist "Let's Dance," and a massive American tour.

"My entire career, I've only really worked with the same subject matter," Bowie told The Associated Press in a 2002 interview. "The trousers may change, but the actual words and subjects I've always chosen to write with are things to do with isolation, abandonment, fear and anxiety — all of the high points of one's life."

His performance of "Heroes" was a highlight of a concert for rescue workers after the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.

"What I'm most proud of is that I can't help but notice that I've affected the vocabulary of pop music. For me, frankly, as an artist, that's the most satisfying thing for the ego."

Bowie kept a low profile in recent years after reportedly suffering a heart attack in the 2000s. He made a moody album three years ago called "The Next Day" — his first recording in a decade which was made in secret in New York City. "Blackstar," which earned positive reviews from critics, represented yet another stylistic shift, as he gathered jazz players to join him.

Bowie was married to international supermodel Iman since 1992.

British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted that Bowie's death is "a huge loss."

He wrote he had grown up listening to and watching Bowie and called the singer a "master of reinvention" and a pop genius who kept on getting it right.

I have never heard him sing, I could not even name any of his songs, but he was obviously a big star, so may he rest in peace.

BUT, chin up you lot, Dave lived his life as he wanted too, he KNOWS his stuff will go on and on in musical history, same as we do.....We all must go and meet our maker, perhaps with a smile, he will have a smile because his stuff made a difference to folks lives, music does that to those who appreciate that fact...Rock On....

Exactly, celebrate the life and work, rather than mourn the death - it's a more fitting tribute.

If a legend like Bowie can succumb to this b@stard disease, what chance has a mere mortal got?

He lived inside my head.
He whispered into my dreams.
He was my muse.
He was the man, oft emulated - never surpassed!

The best artist of our time.

As well as his own stuff, let's not forget the classic records he produced for others - Iggy's Raw Power and Lust for life, Lou Reed's Transformer. Even if he'd never sung a note himself these would be amazing achievements.

All the greats from my era are passing on - Lou Reed, Lemmy and David Bowie. It's only a matter of time before they are all gone, including Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper. RIP. Over to the next generation.
