I'm not sure what you describe. There was no longer a taxi stand at the southern part of the lover part of the airport, the arrival area.

Interesting ... I guess we will have to wait for other recently arrived members to chime in ...

That sounds good way to get mutual understanding, not trust, but common understanding.

The Taxi Meter stand is now one of the round tables to the right when you exit the airport. Towards where the old meter box as seen in the picture posted was. It's a round table like the other taxis. I used it this week and they turned on the meter without fuss.

I too found the taxi meter stand last week, it's been moved and shrunken down a bit, but the drivers were still waiting in the queue in the same place and their cars were parked across the throughway across from the taxi meter stand.

They ALWAYS use the meter. It's the fare plus 100 (airport surcharge), so about 400 to Chergntalay area all up for a 20 minute ride. I guess that's not cheap, but it's as cheap as it's going to get.

Went to a wedding in Ayuttaya. The taxi fare from Don Muang to Ayuttaya was around 400 Bt. A distance of around 60 kilometres.

40km for £16 or $US 22 ?

If that seems expensive are you sure you should be coming to Phuket ?

And he hasn't even asked about the tuk-tuk prices yet.  :)

Sounds like he got you for an extra 100 baht.  It is 100 baht airport surcharge per vehicle, not per person.

You're right, totally ripped off....

Friend came in last week.   HKT to Marriott Mai Khao was THB 800.  Just off a long flight with family, so didn't kick up a fuss.  He's been in the Vacation Club for about 15 years and this is the most he has paid.

Stay three nights at C&N hotel and you'll get a free airport transfer to Patong. The hotel is located about 50 meters from Jungceylon and Bangla Road.
