Hi,

Yes I know how to install Skype.

My question is regarding a VOIP package which allows you to make International calls to any UK number using the internet as opposed to the phone call being connected via the traditional telephone line. I believe VOIP means ' Voice over Internet protocol '.

Unlike Skype and similar products the recipient of your call does not have to be registered with the VOIP provider, nor do they have to be online.....

So basically the VOIP package means you can phone any number and the recipient will just answer the call on their landline or mobile as if it were a normal phone call - Also, when you purchase the VOIP package you are given a phone number which is the number the recipient will have appear on their phone.

I had a conversation with someone who subscribed to a VOIP provider but unfortunately I've mislaid his contact details.

When I've searched for a VOIP package / provider their are lots of advertisements offering this service but the reason I posted my question on the forum was to find out if any forum members had first hand experience / knowledge of a provider and could recommend a particular package and service provider. Obviously, the package is not free and I believe there is an ongoing monthly fee.

Apologies if I didn't make my question clear on my original post.

Thanks,

H

Hi Chicog,

Firstly, I am also a Les Dawson fan - Brilliant comedian !

Thanks for the link you've suggested - That looks exactly like what I'm looking for. I'm no computer expert and although I can use basic things like 'word' etc., I haven't got a clue how how to decide which VOIP program / package would be most reliable and value for money. I really appreciate your help and thanks for taking the time to find that site / provider.

I've been visiting Thailand for 30 years and have now retired here.

Unfortunately, my job in the UK never involved computers and I never embraced technology when I was younger ( Big mistake ).

Again many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Cheers,

H

This is a duplicate thread. There is an identical one running in the Pattaya forum.

FWIW,

You can call any UK number from Skype, or any worldwide number for that matter.
You can also have a UK number (020 3 ) that can be called, on local rates in the UK, and that'll come through to your Skype app where you are..

Unlike Skype and similar products the recipient of your call does not have to be registered with the VOIP provider, nor do they have to be online.....

there is some misunderstanding here, because if the recipient is not registered and isn't online, the call will have to leave internet and enter the phone network at some point.

A fine education you must have had sad.png

OP, I think the answer really is Skype. You buy Skype credit or you can pay monthly, this allows you to call landlines and mobiles over the internet. It's cheap.

Yep, I think you should research Skype, although I think with some VOIP Providers you can get better rates.

What they have in common is you can call conventional telephones, whether they are landlines or mobiles.

It's mobiles where the rates get stupid, but how many people do you know that don't have Skype or something on their mobiles?

You can even do voice calls on Facebook nowadays, I use it all the time if someone sends me a message that requires more than just a typed response.

Used Sipgate for incoming UK geographic number for almost 10 years, not cheap for outgoing but it works well... but even Skype was offering an incoming number I believe (SkypeIn)

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies - Appreciated.

Yes, I also put this post on the Pattaya forum incase there was someone local to me who could help but may not visit the IT forum on a regular basis - That said, I'm guessing that anyone who has this sort of IT knowledge would be a regular visitor to the IT forum. I'm new to the forum so apologies if I shouldn't have posted the same question on the Pattaya forum as well.

Again thanks for the replies.

Cheers,

H.
