Telephone BKK/USA, using card bought in 7-11 store

Featured Replies

Not long ago, I received phone calls from a friend in BKK who had purchased a card at a 7-11 store, followed the directions, and connected easily to my land line in the USA. That worked nicely enough, and it was not expensive. (My friend does not speak English, so e-mail is a very poor option that leads to misunderstandings and worry.)

Lately that system seems to have broken down. I don't know whether the problem is with my friend's mobile telephone, the card system, or some aspect of the intercontinental network.

I'd appreciate comments and suggestions!

TIA

These days I wouldn't even bother with calling cards, Facebook messenger or Skype is good enough providing both of you got a half decent internet connection on mobiles.

What does "broken down" mean? What happens when your friend tries to call?

Simply not ring tone?

The credit is not used up?

What rate does the call cost?

Calling from the mobile phone with a prefix like 009 costs 2.5 Baht/min.

Maybe cheaper prefixes available.

Which mobile operator does your friend use?

I know nothing about Facebook, though I have heard of it. As for Skype, my friend has no computer, and I do not have the hardware to handle it. By "broken down", I mean the only information I have is that the telephonic connection no longer works (an e-mail message from a mutual friend blamed that on a dead mobile phone; that certainly should have been taken care of long ago).

What I need is a candid telephone conversation. The only message I have is a very uninformative e-mail. I suspect I might have lost a friend.
