MAE SAI:-- Myanmar authorities across the border from Mae Sai, northern Thailand, have intercepted two trucks with 4.4 tons of caffeine capable of processing into 44 million Ya Ba tablets.

Three Burmese men were arrested Wednesday.

Drug suppression authorities said the caffeine came by boat from China along the Mekhong river and was destined for processing by Muser drug kingpin Ja Ngoi in the Takhilek area across the border from Thailand.

Ya Ba is usually distributed through Thailand after manufacture abroad.

Caffeine? I think something has been lost in translation here, or maybe soon we'll see the police raiding every last coffee shop around...

umm only one little problem there yaba pills are not supposed to contain caffeine and is caffeine even illegal?

I had two doses of Caffeine this morning !!! am I a Criminal now ????

Rediculous! If it were 4.4 mt of ephedrine then I could understand the arrest but simply for coffee?? Instead of stating how many yaba pills could be made with this amount of coffee, I would have expected it to state how many cups of coffee could be made and the profit reported on the sale of it.

I have lived here for the past 22 years and still get amazed by the stupidity of the arrests and investigations that are made to be important here, like this "coffee bust" rather than something important like child abuse, murders, etc.

Headline says Mae Sot, article says Mae Sai, I say may I have a coffee without my integrity being questioned?
