I made a emergency purchase when the water throwing madness had just started, a 200 baht Anitech A68BK mouse and it has a additional button. Probably something to do with gaming and of no use to me. I've searched and can't find out what it's for - it's a press down button with DPI written on it and at the side of it is printed 1000 1600.

Just curious as to what it's for and how it works (by pressing it, ), how it does whatever it does when you press it.

Below are just a couple of general definitions of DPI control for a mouse I googled up...need to ensure the correct mouse driver is loaded to ensure all mouse controls work.

DPI is the standard used to measure the mouse sensitivity, expressed as the number of DPIs (dots per linear inch) that a device can detect. By changing the DPI, you can instantly adjust pointer speed for precision tasks, such as in-game targeting or photo editing.

Typically a "gamers mouse", the quick "shooters".

Was quite expensive and not of any use for me.

I picked a 169 B model.

Good enough to click some buttons here, some buttons there.

You could translate this as a "speed switch" which allows to change mouse speed on the fly.

And as @pib writes will likely need the specific driver for this type of mouse.

Installed as a standard mouse the button will probably do nothing.

Mouse speed can be adjusted for every mouse in the Windows control panel for normal use.

Just measured my mouse speed (setup), about 700 DPI, about 1.8 inch for 1280 pixel.

Thank you for the explainations - I was googling for an instruction sceed about the brand of mouse rather than googling for DPI. My bad,I should have known better.

I would say the button you refer to is the number of lines per rotation of the center wheel which is for scrolling
