Hi all,

My passports full and being UK resident you now have to fly to Bkk to fill out/process new passport then fly back 2 to 3 weeks later to collect. Arduous for sure.

I was due to fly to Bkk 2 weeks ago but motorcycle accident left me barely incapable of walking the last month so journey out of the question.

I now have just have a week left on visa and need new passport but have not left enough time to process it - hence would mean overstaying I think.

I was wondering what country was closest that didn't require UK citizen to have full page visa stamp, meaning I could fly there, get new passport processed - sure, means spending a few weeks, then fly back.

Don't really want to have to go all the way back to the UK.

Not sure it's feasible but there might be a way?

How little are we talking - half a page or less?

Nowhere will normally let you in without a full blank page in your passport - no matter the size of the stamp. If you have a single blank page left; you can normally get them to stamp in some remaining space on another page but without it - you are most likely to get deported. Sorry, but the best option is probably going back to the UK...

If you get one of those online visas (easy), Burma is also an option. Went there this past October and they inserted only a small in/out stamps next to each other....same size as the in/out stamps here in Thailand. Didn't even cover half a passport page. Now, whether you need (or have room for) a Thai re-entry stamp is another question. Also, I have no idea if the embassy in Rangoon (Yangon) will handle your new passport needs.

It's probably hotter than hell in Rangoon at the moment (it was very hot in October when it was fairly pleasant here in Chiangmai...and it's currently very hot here in Chiangmai).

for philipines, easily.

entry visa sticker is smaller than a postage stamp.

Visa exempt stamp in thailand is quite small as well.

If you are flying to Hong Kong, there will be no stamp at all.

Also Hong Kong you get a tiny stamp, and no need for a visa at all.

And there's affordable direct flights from Chiang Mai. (HK Express, Air Asia, etc.)

I don't believe that you can renew your passport in any other country BUT the UK any more.

You absolutely cannot renew your passport in Phnom Penh; trust me - I renewed my passport in Cambodia. You send the passport (via DHL) to the UK for renewal. It is not even delivered to the embassy when (if) it comes back. It took more than 3 months for them to turn mine round - and I was lucky, I had a fresh 1 year Cambodia visa in there, many others ended up overstaying by months waiting for it.

Hong Kong places two stamps in your passport. One an arrival stamp. The second explaining you may not seek work during the 180 days you are in the country. Hong Kong also requires a full blank page before entering the country. (I have an older passport full of Hong Kong stamps to show you if you like). You will find this is the case pretty much everywhere and you will then be stranded in no man's land having left Thailand but denied entry to almost all other countries. Be very careful here - most of the advice above is abysmal and doesn't consider immigration rules. (BTW if you're not a UK citizen you are required to have 2 blank pages which must be on two opposite pages of your passport to enter the UK - lots of people get deported at their own expense each year for ****ing that up too).

Well, since you mentioned abysmal advice........Yours is out of date. Since December Hong Kong no longer stamps your passport - in or out. They give you a small printed slip of paper with your name, date permitted to stay and passport no. Very simple. Dunno if you can still renew British passport there though.

But the passport still has to go to the UK to be renewed no matter which country you are applying from.

Most probably the quickest way to renew a UK passport is actually in the UK. This of course means a return flight plus hotels etc unless you have family or friends there.

If there is no rush and you can afford to wait the 4 or 5 weeks then that is the cheapest way.

It seems that the OP doesn't have that luxury of time.

You need to contact the embassy to verify that as you have UK nationals in Cambodia and they don't go to Bangkok. If all else fails you will have to go home.

I recently sent off myUK passport to their Liverpool office for renewal and I did it all on the internet. You complete the forms on-line then download the form for signature and for info re pictures etc. You then courier the passpoer, pictures etc to them and they courier it back to you.

I did this from Philippines but I was in Thailand about a month before and a local visa agent told me the delay was only around 3 weeks. You could get a visa extension and then send your passport off, avoiding an overstay. ?

So a local visa agent told you it could be done online in Thailand?

I guess maybe it can in exceptional circumstances.

I would have done it online like last time had they not changed the rules.

I only have half a page so not possible to get extension - the 30 day extra thingy is what I'm on now.

Vietnam will give you a 14 day free of charge visa on arrival.

The arrival/departure stamps measure 34*21 mm each, I have just measured them.

Fly to Hong Kong or Macau on Air Asia. They do not stamp your passport at all either coming or going.

Re-enter Bangkok on a Visa Exempt entry.

Stay in Bangkok while you sort out a new passport, then go anywhere that is convenient and get a regular visa (after you've used the 30 day entry + 30 day extension you'll be able to get on a visa exempt entry).

Most embassy's will not issue a visa with a full passport and the airlines could prevent you from flying with a damaged or full passport.

I would have posed your query on the Visa forum....and received some advice from one of the experts.
