Hi , i have just found out that my neice is far-sighted.

Does anyone know of a good optician in Chiangrai/Maisai area

And roughly how much it will cost for some glasses- cheers

There's a number of qualified opticians in the area, the actual test should be free then the price of the glasses depend on the quality of the frames you select.

I used the guy on the new clocktower corner next to the gold shop recently without complaint.

Actually there very few qualified opticians in Thailand - and I suspect fewer upcountry. This has not been a professional field here until very recently. Opthamologists have performed this function and in many, if not most cases, continue to do so. At any rate it is best to have an exam from them in any case and the cost is not that much - even if done in a hospital setting. You might want to buy glasses at a hospital also as most chains seem to charge very high prices (suspect that is how they afford to be on very city block - with few customers).

There is an optician at the top of the steps at the post office who provides good single vision glasses within about 2 hours for 300 baht.

Which post office? Because I have been trying to find this mythical man for a year.
