The Royal Thai Army on Tuesday held the largest ever military exercise of all different forces that saw almost 150 tanks joining gunship helicopters and F16 jet fighters taking part.

The exercise involved more than 3,000 soldiers from the Second Calvary Division of the Royal Guards, the Artillery Division, and the Lopburi-based Special Warfare Centre.

Live ammunitions were used in this big military exercise at the exercise field in Lopburi province.

Taking the lead role in the joint exercise was the calvary soldiers who drove different types of tanks, armoured vehicles to battle the enemies.

The anti tank guided missiles were also seen to be used by infantry soldiers in the mock battle.

The big exercise was staged to prepare all different forces that they could work together in logistic supply, communications, support to defend the country in case its sovereignty is invaded by foreign forces.

Army commander-in-chief Gen Teerachai Nakwanich was present to observe the military exercise.

What about the exercise COBRA GOLD? Doesn't that involve significant numbers of combined Forces?

Given the timing of recent political developments and accusations......sure it was coffee1.gif maybe it was more of a trial run? :D

Darn... those Christians have infiltrated the Royal Thai Army. Beware, after they get tanked and crucify a few Buddhists they might take on the insurgents with those live rounds!!!

They need some unarmed Thai civilian targets to shoot at, so as to make this exercise resemble the only kind of fight that the Thai army has ever come out on top of.

Who would want to invade Thailand? For what? The Oil? The vast mineral resources? The partly filled dams? The bureaucratic expertise of the Thai civil service? It's only usefulness is as a strategic partner to the US against possible Chinese domination of the region, and that's doubtful.

Or they could join Custer's 7th cavalry in Sioux heaven.

An exercise in futility, if it was intended to show those who oppose the Junta , one wonders just what a tank crew would do when asked to fire on their Mother, Father, brothers and sisters and poor old grandma, it happened before, and history has a habit of repeating itself, obviously some don't learn.......................coffee1.gif

So you think t's red army would use living shields in their strategy? I wouldn't be surprised didn't they do similar things in 2010?

An army which never fought a war has more than 1400 generals. Bravo.....

Did you forget about WW1 when the Thais were on the allied side?

WW2 when they weren't?

Korea when they were?

Vietnam when they were?

Too easy to make sarcastic remarks and not think about what you wrote.

3/4 losses, or 4/5 if you count the war with Laos. More generals needed perhaps?

Very impressive sign up in the Northwest announcing the HQ of the Calvary Division. It made me wonder whether to look for tanks or tambourines!

Tambourines are probably more useful than tanks.

Perhaps he hadn't considered that. Not all of us think about Thaksin all day every day.

Armies need to exercise.

Who would want to attack Thailand?

What for?

Simple........LAND.

Who?

Why are the Chinese so very happy to build railway lines throughout Asia?

Why is there a climbing irritation between countries in SE Asia and China.

Who knows what the future may bring.

Too many generals?

As like in any army in the world.

See what is going on in Europe.

Most countries now find out they need to pay more money in defense.

Why?

Yes, bunch all your tanks up....one B-52 bombing run could have taken them all out. The Thai military is still using World War II era tactics.

I don't think in a war they woud present all of their tanks on a small area

I wonder how many of those ancient "tanks" had to be towed? Last battle Thai army fought against Lao over a little island in the Mekong they got the butts kicked by the Lao in 2 days in full view from both sides of the river, Vientiane/Nong Khai. Hmmm, pitter patter of little feet in full retreat. General probably got promoted...lol. Oh, maybe we aren't supposed to speak of this. I'll never talk bad about their courage in the American War in SE Asia, those were fighting men.
