1.KMK trail report:

Trails generally good except about a klick out one up-section has a

new 75cm deep gully down centre.

Tried to jump it, but fell in with rear tire.

Was able to york her out and detour thru the bush.

2.My little buddy Gun has a new dirt bike.

A nice condition Kawasaki 70cc two stroke.

He started it up for me and it sounds fierce.

3. Sunday 18th hab Enduro Meet.

Last year, 43 km.; barely made it.

4. Been riding 25-30 km during training days.

5. Drizzly, not hot today, real nice.

Interesting for T2 fans:

Yeah, somebody suggesting to me a 300:1 ratio - no way would i believe it. Incredible.

My old air cooled motors still like their 50:1.

Been using the Velorex lately - green bottle - smells like candy chewing gum...

I presume, if you can actually get it (and i've not seen it here), you'll be around 80:1 on your water cooled Montesa using a FULL synthetic.

Posted

papa been studying up on motor oils lately.

Full synthetic ≠ 100% synthetic.

Five classes of oil base stocks:

1. Slightly refined,

2. More refined - like oils 30 years ago

3. hydrofracted - Hydrogen added to carbon backbone to resist oxidation.

Made from petroleum but since 1995 can legally call it synthetic. Go figure.

4. PAO-based, from natural gas. The good stuff. True 100% synthetic.  AMSOIL SS and a very few others.

5. Ester-based stock. Has a high affinity for metals. Used in Jets. Suspect they use it in 2T blends.

All manner of additives are blended in to enhance viscosity, anti-corrosion/pH, anti-foam, &c.

Saw one case on YouTube where guy drove his pick-up 95,000 miles on AMSOIL Signature Series

NEVER CHANGING oil it just topping after changing filter at 25,000 intervals;

sending samples in to verify.

Finally changed oil at 95,000, although lab reported could go 5-10,000 miles more.

Another guy ran a 350Chevy van changing oil at 25,000 intervals.

finally had "failure"  at 950,000 miles and changed engine.

Sent engine to AMSOIL who found a valve guide retainer failed

but all else was fine & dandy; clean.

AMSOIL be da shit.

Jungle tries to get papa.

Slammed boots into some gnarly sticks today.

Knocked some chunks of plastic out.

Also hooked a thin vine

which ended up wrapped around sprocket

about 7 times,

derailing the chain.

Rain lately causing erosion and deposition.

Trees down and across trail in 4 spots.

Have been able to circumvent at 3 of those.

Expect the locals will chain-saw soonish.

While it is good oil, the long life of an engine can be put down to regular oil and filter changes.

Peggy, a friend from Northern Canada, has a pilot car business. Bought a brand new Chevy pickup, V8 diesel, 4 speed auto.

Notified GM corporate when odometer passed 1,000,000 KM. Never replaced any components in either engine or trans.

Used conventional oil and filters, changed every 5000 KM

Had a right good sesh with TG Junior this morning. First time in a while he's been back on a ty mono.

25 minutes on the pegs and thoroughly enjoyed himself. Started some basic figure of 8's. He's getting better. More next week, might get him on a little hill climb, and learning body positioning.

Impressive.   200 oil changes.

Severe cold conditions.

This application would have been perfect for AMZOIL products.

She could have saved a bunch of money

& 160 hassles.

with 40 x  25,000 mile oil changes.

As many do.

Increased fuel economy.

Longer life on starter, battery.

KMK had Enduro Rallye March 18.

30-something K.

Pretty good turnout, maybe 200 Thais

and 8 farang.

Papa's bike/Climber had mechanical problems.

Bike had been running rough especially at midrange throttle.

10K out on Monkey mountain had to turn around.

Barely made the 10K back to the parking area.

Running terrible.

Thought maybe seizure.

Was the first back so, 1st place.

Have since had the carb cleaned & new filter,

& back in beeswax.

Enduro Ralley April 8 Bowin.

That will be papa's 6th Enduro event, Buddha willing.

;-)

Huay Saparn

Enduro rallye  Sunday west of Bowin.

Real nice event, over 100 riders.

Started at west end of the lake and proceeded through some rough stuff in the valley.

Through tall grass, and sand/gravel borrow pits.

Featured a lot of those steep bank climbs.

Climber/papa did pretty good

utilising the full-power, lean-way-forward,

bend-the-knees-and-let-off-at-the-lip method.

My little buddy Gun pulled a spectacular chandelle on

a 3 meter climb.

Personally unscathed but broke the kick-starter lever/shaft off his Kawasaki 4T.

Then up into the jungled hills.

papa dumped a couple, but also unscathed.

Big-ass Thai party after.

Sexy dancing girls.

The works.

So, have been riding 2x or 3x per week at my cow.

Lots of trees down over trails.

Several flooded trail sections.

Quick-sand/mud in one area.

Ruts /gullies proliferating.

Jungle reaching out.

Yikes.

papa heading back to world soon for 4 months.

Really looking forward to firing up the TY350s.

and hitting the Colorado high-country trails.

'be nice... .

...lately the heat here LOS has been getting to papa.

Last week papa wrapped-up the trail riding

season at KMK .

Hired a pick-up to transport Climber & Cota back to

my parking at the condo.

Padlocked them to Lifan, ceeber, and Nouvo,

No bike covers this year as they attract cats & rodents.

My cleaning lady will wash my car and start it

& Nouvo monthly.

Acclimating in Denver now but buddy is taking me to mountains today.

Hope to have KLR650 and TY350 x 2 running by dark.

It snowed up there yesterday.

Made it up into the mountains and all three bikes started up.

The KLR stared on it's battery with considerable cranking and some ether.

Both TY350s started 2nd kick.

My place is at 10680ft above the sea level.

Considerable snow remaining above 13,000 feet, and

new snow up there last night.

Really enjoying the single track trails near the house.

No sweltering heat, bugs, sweat, nor jungle vines reaching out.

Back in the world

for a week now.

Beautiful, mostly clear Colorado days

combined with the fine local trails

be putting a smile on papa’s mug.

Digging on the cool (cold) weather.

Icy glaze or frost on the deck each morning.

Haven’t tried the ride up to the Mosquito Pass yet

as the jeep track is still loaded with snow.

Running under 5psi in the tires but still

don’t like riding on the tundra.

Poor snow pack this past winter has folks concerned.

Wildfire is a worry if precipitation remains scant.

My boy took a beauty picture of frost on the M249 squad automatic weapon on the roof of a Hummer one morning in Iraq.  It got pretty nippy there in Dec/Jan.

Mmmm, Colorado.

Weed is 100% legit there, right?

Sounds like you're enjoying the wonderful countryside in that marvelous State.

Indeed.  Looks like they are steering instead of riding.  Stand up and shift weight from peg to peg. Hang on with your legs.  Move the body weight around.  And keep moving. Nothing wrong with going sideways as long as you are heading in the right general direction ... unless a tree is coming to meet you. (They are NOT your friends on narrow, slippery single-track. )

There some good moments in this video of the 2017 International Six Days of Enduro, though this place in France looks more like an old motocross track.

Hour glass figures....

When did they start putting mouse pads on the bikes instead of seats?  Some of the Pro bikes look like it's just a layer of paint (to hide skid marks).  555

Very nice body work.

July 1, Colorado high country.,

Riding has been swell this past month.

Severe clear prevailing.

Only one rain storm in the month.

Yesterday a lightening caused wild-fire 20 miles

away took out the fibre-optic-line and

Internet, cell-phones, TV were all down.

I took my first TY spill of for the season,

hopping a slanted log on the steep hillside.

papa unscathed,

but broke clutch lever.

pushed her thru woods 100-meters to county road.

Was  able to bump-start her on the downhill grade,

in 4th gear,

by working the clutch at the engine case

with my left had.

First try, thanks Buddha.

Rode the 2 klicks home no prob.

Ah the old slanted log chestnut... Thought you knew better Papa - head on, head on, no slanted angle attacks.

You being in Colorado - ever thought of visiting and watching Pike's Peak?

Looks jolly good fun.

Bloody scary from the rider's/driver's view...

My big brother had one of those little 125cc Honda trials bikes in the early 70's.  He use to practice riding with the front wheel up on the curb and the rear wheel in the gutter.  Sort of slither along.  I'm sure it did wonders for the tire sidewalls.
