Beware the Central underpass

Featured Replies

Dear all, be aware that the underpass near central normally has one or two lanes closed and is signalled using red lights. Clueless idiots still drive down the closed lane into oncoming traffic, so watch out! Happened a few times to me over the last week.

oncoming traffic entails that it is green on the other side but it wont ever be.

Normally they try to close the centre lane by showing a red cross at either end but some coming from the south still use it as they have always done, Shows the futility of building a 3 lane underpass, which was planned to be used in a way that they could reverse the flow, as many do not look at the lights.

at this point im fairly certain most know that its red but since it has been red forever coming north they simply do not care. Waiting behind the 20km/h scaredpanties is no fun

The first few days the tunnel was opened, I noticed that one of the lanes had both the red cross and green arrows lit simultaneously coming from the south. I was really surprised there were no accidents.

Sometimes I feel it's not so bad to be not allowed to drive a motorbike through there. Three lanes with a flying middle lane, no physical divider between opposite directions and thai traffic are a guarantee for accidents. I'd be incredibly rich if one could short (as in stock market) the safety outlook of these underpasses :)

Coming from the south 2 lanes are green again (one light though seems to be stuck in the red cross position).
