RAYONG: -- Thieves at a famous Rayong temple have been helping themselves to turtles.

Merit makers at the temple of Wat Ta Khan in Ban Khai district of the eastern province visit the pond there to release turtles and other water creatures. They hope their actions will bring them good things and luck reported Daily News.

But mostly it has just been good luck for nighttime thieves. One monk at the temple said: "Youths have been coming to steal at night. I heard the dogs barking and looked out to see two young men helping themselves to a load of turtles. They loaded them into a bag and drove off on a motorcycle. I was too worried to do anything for fear of attack."

Now the local police force has been contacted and they have promised action to catch those responsible. Daily News reported that theft of turtles was a problem at many temples.
