CityNews – On June 12, the district-chief officer of Mae Jaem ordered official security forces, along with the military, forestry agency and watershed management and security officials, to inspect the Ban Mae Sa Nga area after complaints by locals regarding illegal deforestation and agriculture in the protected area.

In the area surveyed, officials discovered an area of over 10 acres that had been illegally cleared for agriculture. There was also a large water pipeline leading to the area. However, the land was yet to be cultivated, however the forest was completely destroyed.

Officials have no leads: Yes, unfortunately the damage has been done, but surely the perpetrators will be identified as soon as they start to use the land? Am I missing something with that logic?

No leads and how about witnesses when they were clearing the land,10 acres ?? not exactly a 5 minute job.

Its all to common for the authorities to turn up after all

the damage has been done, capture (sometimes) the

loggers after with loads of processed wood, land with

resorts and house built on it,in what should be a protected

area.its like when a chainsaw is in the forest, does anyone

Maybe someone just didnt have anything to do,, so cleared the land. Im sure some guy with a hoe will take the blame, the big guys will just clear out another patch somewhere else.

No problem. Arrest anyone who comes to cultivate the land. Also remove the irrigation pipe. coffee1.gif

That region, I believe that Mae Sa Nga is north of Mae Nachon which is due north of Mae Chaem on the 1088, has long suffered from deforestation and the forests have been replaced with intense corn cultivation courtesy of the CP Group. Vast expanses of hills have been denuded. A mere 10 acres is scarcely noticeable. Various entities have built corn storage facilities in the region. One such facility is in Mae Nachon itself which once had a small thriving tourist business that has dwindled over the past decade due to habitat destruction.
